So I met this non-Alum who sits in the President's Box for

home games.
What an amazing story. Basically, he's a Vietnam Vet who flew helicopters and is originally from California. He went to school at UCLA and did the ROTC thing there. Flew in helos in Vietnam with Air Cav.
He recounted to me that during the war, he had met "many fine officers from Clemson" and was impressed by all of them. After his service, he bought a restaurant in Huntington Beach. This restaurant is nowadays occupied by a Wendy's. It became extremely successful.
He set up a trust and ALL of the rental proceeds (net of expenses) go to Clemson to fund ROTC scholarships. 8 of them, to be exact. And after his death, this will continue. In perpetuity.
So next time I read some drivel about non-alums not being all-in, I just have to chuckle. And by the way, RB will be sitting next to him in DV this year--we just haven't settled on which game yet.

I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRESIDENT'S BOX
Mar 2, 2018, 4:58 PM
|

sorry for yelling, but Ridgeland, as I was saying:
Do you have to sit up there and drink the Prez' swill.
Do they also b!%<& about the referees and conservative play-calling, or are they not true fans?
I heard they have their own Dip n' Dots machine and representative in there. Also heard some kid wondered in there during one game and tried to get some dots, but they threw him right out once they found out he was sitting in the Upper Deck. Dont know if its true, its just what i heard
Do you have to wear a tie? are there any grown men in that box that show up in a Football Jersey?

a diploma from Clemson cost more than money.
J/K and so are the others who torture our Clemson brethren who didn't attend Clemson. If we didn't love you we wouldn't torture you when this subject comes up.

dad to carolina. I could not finish. Love hearing all of the Alums talking about how they may be better tiger fans.. Im not a grad. I will never finish school. I will continue to dump my money in however. I will continue to sit in a box myself. dont really understand the non alum.. a lot of "Alums" are not even natives of MY state. Clemson.. and south carolina.. represent MY native state. a lot of these Yanks move down here attend clemson or another one of our fine schools.. and unfortunately.. Personally, I love the Libs who come down here from up north and want to "change them name of tillman hall" well, maybe you should of researched your school... and state... before you came here?

Great post. I'm a non-Alum who spent a career as an Enlisted and Chief Warrant Officer in the service. I've been all-in since my oldest daughter and I attended the Fla State game 4+ years ago.
When you're sitting by your friend at the game, please pass on my thanks to him. My daughter received a Clemson Corps scholarship to start her Soph year, which allowed her to pay in-state tuition for her first year of ROTC while she decided if the Army was going to be right for her. It is, and she contracted at the end of her Soph year.
Without the Clemson Corps endowment my daughter would not have found her calling, and I'd be a LOT lighter in the wallet.
By the way, her sister has also become a Tiger this year so I'm very proud to say our entire family is All-In and will always be Tigers from here on out, even though neither my wife and I attended Clemson.
Go Tigers!!!

For all that were smart enough and financially stable enough to have been educated at Clemson, I genuinely, and personally applaud you, and I do envy you!!! I honestly wish that I would have been smart enough, and financially stable enough to have educated at Clemson. I can only try to imagine how proud one must feel knowing that they are a graduate of Clemson, one of the finest Universities in the south and in our country.
I understand that there are some Clemson grads that believe bc they went to, and have graduated from Clemson, that it makes them feel that they qualify as being a better or a more all in Clemson sports fan than any non alum fan. As a non alum Clemson sports fan, I can't answer for no one but my self, and I can promise that I don't believe that any Clemson grad can possibly be anymore loyal or love Clemson Sports any more than I do. Clemson is my first and only college sport team that I have ever been a fan of, and I have been screaming cheering Go Tigers for 56 years, since I was 10 years old. My 1st game in DV was when our stadium name was Clemson Memorial Stadium as it still is, but was called Frank Howard Field before Death Valley was even a thought.
Frank Howard was still our HC and walked the side lines for my 1st FB game ever, college or pros. My love and loyalty for Clemson is equal to anyone's, alum or non alum, my blood is as orange as anyone's. I could never envy no one's loyalty or love of Clemson when it comes to my own.
Personally, I feel that it is impossible for anyone to love Clemson University more than I do after giving 56 years of my life giving 110% genuine love and loyalty to our Clemson Tigers!!!! People that say with their mouth that they are more all in fans bc they are a graduate of Clemson, and that's like saying I love my wife more than you do yours bc my wife is a true blond, and yours isn't!!! After they have suffered through the pain and heart aches of our worst years that us old timer fans has through many years of being a Clemson fan bc of our love and loyalty to our team, then maybe they can talk about what a true Clemson fan really is... Being a fan of anything is like a marriage, you have to love and be loyal just as much in the worst times as you are in the best of times. Without that commitment, you're not going to be a good fan to who you are a fan of, or who you are married to.

This mythical dividing line made up by a small minded, conceited and foolish segment of the alumni base and the rest of the world is an embarrassment to the great majority of the Clemson family, alumni and non-alumni alike.
I am proud to be a Tiger, a graduate, a former resident of the tin cans, the box dorms and the 'high rises'and a guy who marched on Bowman Field. I'm also proud to have been a season ticket holder for 45+ years. I appreciate all the fans who support Clemson. Wouldn't you think there are more non-graduates at EVERY home game than graduates?
