I thought it was just for bowl games to remind the city and bowl officials of the financial impact Clemson fans have, so to choose the Tigers the next time the opportunity arises?
Seems pointless for in conference away games that we have to go to regardless.

to major away games as well. And I imagine any away trip to Atlanta is automatically qualified as a good occasion for $2 bills. I don't really have a problem with this, I think it's a really unique tradition and doing it 2-3 times a year doesn't dilute the impact.

I believe it started with the 1978 Gator Bowl. I went down there with at least 200 of them. Paid for our meals and other incidentals with them. I remember that the merchants were incredulous. Anybody remember them before that?

Actually started in the 60s when GT made noises like they wanted to cancel our games with them(all until then in Atlanta). We decided that the merchants in Atlanta needed to know the economic impact we had in the town when we visited and this was the answer. It must have worked....

I think since it's the first time we've played in Syracuse it would be nice. It's kind of unique.
The first time the $2 bill was used was in Atlanta in 70's when GA Tech refused to come play at Clemson so it was the last of the series. We wanted the area around Tech to realize what they were missing by not having Clemson in town.
Has been used since then at bowl games and other big road games. Seems like the tradition has faded somewhat lately.
