So, I actually ran into my first Pitt fan last night...

Was enjoying dinner/drinks in downtown Savannah last night with some fellow Tigers and a Pitt guy walks up to our table and says, "Hey youse guys, I'm a Pitt grad and I'm excited to be in the ACC with youse Clemson guys!"
Well, we sort of looked at each other around the table, and we all simultaneously burst into laughter. Maybe it was the yankee accent and all, or the absurdity of a school like Pitt joining the ACC, who knows.....
I guess you had to be there.

is considered a yankee? Pittsburgh is pretty close to the southern border of Pennsylvania.

I think I was referring to the guido look and the "youse guys" accent...not the geographical location of their campus. Clear enough for ya?

And then? Surely after a guy approaches you about how

excited he is that his alma mater is in a conference with Clemson, you were nicer than to just burst into laughter and leave it at that. What was the conversation?

No, of course. It was just his Joe Pesci imitation that got us laughing.
But on a more serious note, nobody that I shared the table with last night views Pitt as a "good addition" to the ACC. Same for Syracuse. Swofford should be fired just for that, IMO.
I think Louisville was a great get. Just wish we'd taken WV when we had the chance.

Understandable. I'm from Jersey and I've been down here

long enough to where a thick Jersey accent catches me off guard too.
I am really optimistic about Pitt and I think they'll be a good addition for us long-term. Syracuse...well, I have a lot of friends in Charlotte who are Syracuse friends, so there's that. Otherwise it's a tough one. I agree completely about WV. I wish we didn't HAVE to get Louisville and that we kept Maryland, but I can't argue about Louisville being a far superior program to Maryland.

Both Pitt & Cuse are better than Maryland.

Sure, neither are spectacular in football, but they both have far better potentials to be better in football than Wake Forest, Duke, Maryland, & Boston College...
Cuse is a pretty big pickup, they have a very strong fan base and are stellar in basketball...

I ran into my first Syracuse fan recently.

He came up to me and said he was looking forward to the game. I punched him in the face, insulted his mother, and slashed his tires. Syracuse fans...LOL.

What's happened to the term "Southern?"
Jul 25, 2013, 11:12 AM
|
|
Southern Gentleman use to be the most flattering complement one could bestow on a man. Southern grace was equally flattering to our ladies and everybody tried to raise their children to have Southern Manners.
I guess it's my generations' fault, I apologize for our failure to preserve our heritage.

he joined us for drinks (on us) and we discussed football.
We agreed to disagree that in our opinion, Pitt was not a good get for the ACC.
You sound kind of thin-skinned to me. Loosen up.

If not for Penn St upsetting Pittsburg, who was ranked ahead of us in 81, we don't play for the NC
