So, did FB Nation get hoodwinked over Bama being greatest O ever due to ESPN/SEC propaganda?

Jan 13, 2019, 11:29 AM

Maybe & maybe not but they sure hype up their agenda & teams til it’s disgusting.

Glad to see ACC finely get its own network soon, with ESPN, since they know how to promote, propagandize & make $ for its conference teams.

NO!!!!, they were the greatest and got elephant butt kicked by the true BEST ever team!!!!!

The OP stipulated 'The Greatest Ever.'

Jan 13, 2019, 11:48 AM

If that were true we could not have beaten them. Not believing that Alabama wasn't the GOAT doesn't mean I don't believe they were a good team. I don't know if they are the second best team in the nation but I'll not argue that.

they tried their best, but it didn't quite work out they way that they had it scripted, and now I think their bias has been exposed.

Yes, this is a continuation of...

Jan 13, 2019, 11:45 AM

ESPN seizing an economic opportunity during the BCS era when the SEC Network was founded. Having control over sports news, information and the biggest voice in opinions on college football they capitalized on their union with the SEC.

In control over the message they pushed the SEC into the spotlight week after week, year after year until they established the SEC as the dominate conference in the minds of most college football fans. If you will check the latest way too early preseason polls you'll see that the SEC has 5 teams in the top 10 again.

Again they will play few games against teams from other power five conferences and will once again compare each SEC team to other SEC teams and declare such rhetoric as 'good loss,' to swap them around in the top of the rankings. SEC teams' present rank will bear on their rank week after week and they will finish the season at worst with five or six teams being ranked in the top 25.

If the Playoff system was designed to straighten this out it has failed. It helped a bit but it's never going to end in our lifetimes.

Sometimes saying a thing enough makes it a thing , but then another thing comes along and something else altogether different than that first thing rises above it .
That's the thing I want to point out.

For anyone overlooking the stats, you might want to go back and review just how well Bama actually did. It might have been late in the 4th before CLEMSON caught up with some of their O stats for Rushing. We have arguably the best DLine in the history of college FB, but Bama seemed to rush for good yardage repeatedly. Initially, I thought we excelled way more in every stat, but after re-watching the game and looking at the stats, Bama is still a force to deal with. I think our coaches out-coached them, but the players are top drawer IMO. Previously, I posted that Bama might not make the CFP next year, mainly due to losing their backup QB. I have to retract that now, and Bama might even be preseason #1 once again like the pundits did to us in 2017. In fact, I would be surprised if they are not preseason #1 just based on recruiting numbers and what we lose on D. Plan on Bama/CLEMSON #5.

can’t disagree with you. Watching game in person

Jan 13, 2019, 12:23 PM

Got me by in emotionally thinking we whipped them badly, but after watching game a couple times since getting home, we obviously hit the big plays and had a bend but don’t break defense that really toughened up in red zone. That combined with mental miscues by Alabama and questionable play calling by their staff, made the score a lot more lopsided than the stats would suggest.

Bama won 1st down, Clemson won 3rd down

Jan 13, 2019, 7:09 PM

we won the more important downs.

from an article I read:
3. This was a strange #### game.
Let’s define each play as a win or loss based on whether it was successful or not — so if the Team A’s offense gains 50 percent of its necessary yardage on first down, 70 percent on second, or 100 percent on third, it’s a win for Team A, and if it doesn’t, it’s a win for Team B.

First-down wins (offense and defense): Alabama 42, Clemson 18
Second-down wins: Alabama 22, Clemson 20
Third-down wins: Clemson 19, Alabama 9
Fourth-down wins: Alabama 3, Clemson 3
This game swung on third downs, and in a dramatic way. Clemson faced much larger yards to go on third downs — 7.7 to Bama’s 4.5 — but went 10-for-15 to Bama’s 4-for-13. And among those 10 conversions were passes of 26, 37, 62, and 74 yards. Bama won the other downs by a dramatic margin (67-41) and got destroyed. Clemson’s timing was beyond impeccable.

Re: Bama won 1st down, Clemson won 3rd down

That is a good article. I re-watched the game, and it was a lot closer than I thought when I was watching it in real time. It was one of those everything that could go wrong went wrong for bama, and everything that could go right went right for Clemson. Now don't get me wrong, Clemson still beat them handily and thoroughly out coached them, but it didn't hurt that we had a lot of "balls bounce our way".

Re: So, did FB Nation get hoodwinked over Bama being greatest O ever due to ESPN/SEC propaganda?

I'll have to say yes. Tua had earlier in 2018 completed a NC comeback victory over UGA out of no where (became a legend in ESPN Analyst and Paul Finebaum's minds) and was destroying cupcakes and the lesser SEC teams with a passing attack like no one had ever seen from Bama. Because of the ESPN and SEC network hype, most fans across the nation were brain washed to believe the SEC is the best conference and Bama was the best team ever. Although, living in the Southeast, we knew it wasn't true.

The stats were there to dispute the greatest ever claims but no one looked at them. The problems reared their ugly heads against ranked teams. A stat like Tua having 6 TDs and 6 interceptions against teams with defenses ranked in the top 30 (before Clemson), scoring totals by quarter that dropped dramatically against all ranked teams played, and being totally shut down in the 3rd quarter by all ranked teams averaging only 4.8 points (before Clemson) should have been noticed and a wake up call tobthe pundits that Bama was not the greatest team ever.

It's better to look at the data and facts before spewing non-sense. Something ESPN and Finebaum need to learn. The data showed Clemson was far superior and the Natty proved it beyond a doubt.

ESPN coverage of Bama was literally nauseating. It seems ESPN did the absolute bare minimum in its coverage of Clemson. Their coverage of us came with what could be perceived as a reluctance, compared to the enthusiasm with which they covered Bama. When you consider all the talent on our team, our young co-offensive coordinators, and best defensive coordinator in college football, there was plenty of material for ESPN to rave about. On top of all of that, what Clemson had done with a true freshman quarterback was undoubtedly impressive. But by their coverage, you would think our defensive line is all we had going for us. And all of the hype was about Tua.

I think they were a great team. They dominated their opponents for the most part, and were able to force a comeback win against a good team. They went 14-1. They have great athletes and HOF coach. We were just better, when we discount how good they are, we discount how great we are.

If they had given us an epic beatdown, they would have been crowned the GOAT. So our dominance of the best team in modern football, makes us the unquestionable GOAT. We left no doubt.

More like they peaked early in the season. They played their best football in the first half and then lost steam from injuries etc. We got better every week.

Bama was very very good. Our win does not make them a bad team.

Yes the media like tp hype their product. Bama has been that product and they have hyped the whole SEC to boost the product. That will continue. Clemson will keep getting hyped too as 'the only non-SEC program thst is SEC-like.

When the ACC network hits the airwaves i would not want to try to be like the SEC-ESPN. Rather i would prefer a Mark Packer like apporach insisting that the games matter, noting that good football is played a lot of places and giving good, even coverage thst is more national in scope. I that that approach would woo a national audience and so advance the ACC.

Face it: ESPN has not helped anyone but Bama. SC. AUBURN, Fl and Tn have not gotten better despite SEC-ESPN support. Mostly that league as a whole has suffered while Bama has run roughshod over them all. Don't you think it kills Auburn fans to hear the 'Bama is the best ever' talk.
