Eco-mode is a scam

Apr 30, 2021, 1:08 PM

There's no way it saves money like Nest says it does. My AC may not come on during the day, but it runs for hours in the evening bringing the temp down 10 degrees

At the very least, it's a wash

I don’t expect you to understand thermodynamics so

I won’t explain it to you but you’re wrong.

If it’s not back to the temp you want when you want it you either need to set it to occupied temp earlier or get a bigger window unit air conditioner.

Not to mention the leaky pipes in grammas house

I'm with you here.

If you let your house heat up in the day in SC in the summer, it takes hours to cool it down to sleeping temperature. Now is that 3-hour AC running in the evening any better than the much shorter cycles during the day to keep the house some temperature? I mean 75 to 71 is like 2-3 hours on a good hot summer day to cool down our house.

I have been told by code, in SC an AC unit is only required to be able to drop the inside temp 30 degrees below the outside air temp. So a 110 day and the house sits at 80, and that's "normal". Our AC is about dead on with the 30-degree rule.

The AC is really cold but I'm not sure how good it is

I forget so eco doesn't turn off until our phones connect to the wifi. Nobody got home until 7:30 last night and it was on 78. at 10:30 when we were getting ready for bed it was on 74 and we sleep at 68

Can't the temp threshold for Eco mode be set a little...

Apr 30, 2021, 2:22 PM

To answer your question, as a general statement, it is ultimately cheaper to have your AC not run/set to a higher temp when you're not home and then run continuously for some time to cool once you get home. Most central AC systems are more efficient running continuously than they are cycling on and off.

First, don't have a #### 10 degree swing in the temps.

make it closer to 4 or 5 and have more stops along the way.
