So after two games
Nov 11, 2022, 9:23 PM
|
|
No freshman has even scored a point.
Middlebrooks looks awful. Ed Bleynat awful.
Beedle is athletic but very, very raw still.
We have no physicality down low. PJ gets a pass in his first game, but Tyson, Middlebrooks and Shieffelin were manhandled tonight.
I appreciate Alex Hemenway, but he cannot guard on the perimeter. Neither can Galloway. No lateral quickness. The perimeter defense problem is not going away unless some freshmen show they can guard.
We had our normal, in game droughts where we could not score.
We are a long, long way from being a good basketball team.

Unfortunately one of the droughts was the last 7 minutes of the game.

They went on a 13 to 1 run...but we just do stupid stuff.

Hall leans out on a pick, for a foul, but also, he leaned out because Hemminway ran to0 wide on the screen. That is just stupid basketball. Then, late in the game Tyson passes up a wide open 3 from the top of the key, inside of 4 minutes, down 4, and drives to shoot a HARD two,and misses...then comes down the next possession and launches a hard fade away 3. Stupid basketball. Hate to say it. But it is what it is.

Another drought at the end of the first half. Clemson led 24-21 and then was down 9 at the break.

Did you expect anything different???
Brownell hasn’t changed anything. His guys are still standing there. High pick and roles that don’t work and our guys don’t rebound.
Have you seen anything new besides the students and maybe the players???

This...
Sounds like Terrence Oglesby on his breakdown. Had a chance to get a big athletic wing in portal replacing Collins, and never used it for the last spot. And the main thing this a bad Coot team. They are going to play a lot better guards and wings moving forward.

SC picked last in the SEC. Citadel picked 9th out of ten in the Southern. Losing season for Clemson almost guaranteed.

I really thought schief and/or Tyson would manhandled them on the boards.... and that was before I knew hall was back. Kinda disappointing. And being honest, a team shooting 46% FT Really kept us in it vs anything we did.

Reading the box scores the biggest takeaway was rebounding. We were killed on the boards.
Maybe JK will come on shortly and break it all down. His versions are always interesting.

Our rebounding tonight was atrocious.

Despite that, we had plenty of chances late. We had several open looks from 3 and didn’t make them. Super frustrating!
I did think our perimeter defense was better tonight than it was against The Citadel.

I don't want to pile on Hemenway, but we all know he is not a starter in the ACC. Neither is Galloway honestly. They both lack lateral quickness and will continue to struggle to guard. The freshmen, whom I've heard from you and others don't need to be major contributors, need to grow up fast. They at least have the athleticism to guard people. But then, as I've stated for months, freshmen tend to struggle to guard.

We can’t recruit. It’s only getting worse and worse

At least Larry Shyatt had teams that were fun to watch sometimes.
Man we are bad at developing players. Heck Shyatt developed Nagys and Olu Baboloa better than what we have had under Brownell and that’s .. not great

Our recruiting isn’t getting worse. It’s getting better. That’s pretty obvious to anyone paying attention.
Player development under Brad is one of our strong suits. Look at PJ Hall, Chase Hunter, and Hunter Tyson, for example. They have all improved tremendously since they arrived as freshmen.

And yet OP did more with less from a recruiting standpoint and actually had a 3* that they developed into an NBA 1st rounder.

This is why I don't watch basketball. Probably wouldn't watch if we were winning. Just can't get into it.
