Can anyone defend this?

Mar 16, 2021, 1:03 PM

Tl;dr Obamacare covers %90 of the cost to expand Medicaid and Biden is trying to give Mississippi (the poorest State) an additional $600M over the next two years, but there Governor would rather turn the money down in the middle of a pandemic. He is costing the State $310M to keep people uninsured.

Well, to be fair, Mississippians elected this clown - so now they have to live with "his position".

and without insurance.

What does this mean?

Mar 16, 2021, 1:38 PM [ in reply to Re: Can anyone defend this? ]

"...when you take that money and expand services, it puts you in the position of having to maintain that level even after the extra money dries up."

You don't have to maintain that level after the money dries up, right?

Is there a more stereotypical arrogantly ignorant looking, southern pub politician than this guy.

So a TD...someone doesn’t have a sense of humor.

Come on! The guy looks like the love child of Tucker Carlson and Boss Hog!

Sanford tried to do this in SC.

Mar 16, 2021, 1:57 PM

Didn't work. Won't in Mississippi either is my guess.

So after 2 years, who pays the additional $300 Million/year?

Mar 16, 2021, 2:09 PM

Sounds like they don't have the money to expand it beyond the 2 years the Federal Gov't pays for.

Hey, take this $1,000,000 home. I'll cover the mortgage the first 2 years, after that you're on your own. And you can't move.

Not that great is it?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, this is the bullsh*t the feds push on the states to

Mar 16, 2021, 8:25 PM

then turn around and say "see, without us you wouldn't have enough money!" as the state budget eventually gets taken over with federally mandated spending (as it is in SC.)

Re: Can anyone defend this?

If the Federal government agreed to continue the 90/10 arrangement and never bail on this arrangement or not expand it to higher and higher incomes, that would be one thing. However, accepting the carrot now and then getting beaten by the stick later is probably not a good move. Furthermore, many doctors are choosing not to accept Medicaid anyway. The reimbursement is an absolute joke. There are a lot of unintended consequences of expanding Medicaid. With a Medicaid card in hand, more than a few folks take advantage of this and show up in the ER with the most ridiculous issues that if they had to pay for would never come in.

I never stopped accepting Medicaid. I probably should have as it was a loss of money to see a Medicaid patient. If the number of folks on Medicaid dramatically increased, I would have been forced to stop accepting Medicaid. If the decision is ultimately made to expand Medicaid, reimbursement will have to increase or ultimately physicians and hospitals will be forced to either stop or limit how many patients they see possessing a Medicaid card. You can't make it up in bulk when you are losing money on each encounter.
