Too Big to Fail

Aug 18, 2022, 7:33 PM

With the enormous B1G media deal and the likely similarly large SEC deal to come, I got to thinking, what does this mean for compliance. As an example, would the NCAA be able to levy a probation like we suffered? Imagine if Ohio State were to get a 2 year TV ban. The network would be looking at a catastrophe. Even worse, Texas with the Longhorn Network, or, the worst of all, Notre Dame and NBC. I think not. Maybe I was naive to think it wasn’t already this way (UNC I am looking at you), but now I am sure.

Why would the NCAA punish cheaters?

It's legal to pay players now. That has always been the big 'Gotcha' for the NCAA. I suppose you could go after the academic side and catch those schools with players that "Didn't come here to play school!" But, they don't seem to be very good at that.

They got hammered. It's hard to be on TV when the NCAA cancels your entire season.

No tv no bowls. NCAA used to enforce the rules.

The B1G and SEC will soon be writing their own rule book

The NCAA will be happy to go along for the ride, however they are allowed to participate.
