Smokin' Pig is branching out.

Just saw where they moved into the old Buck's Diner in Easley. They've had a small joint in Williamston for few years now, but it's an extremely tiny restaurant.

Exactly, I seriously doubt 3 of the finest BBQ joints in America are located in the NYC area. I prefer the small town family operations. All are probably very good but not likely the greatest.

Yes, there's some clear urban bias

I've eaten at 3 of the 4 on the list from Georgia. Fox Brothers and Fat Matt's is more that it is unexpected in its location than its BBQ. (same for Community Q but I've never eaten there). They are all "inside the perimeter" restaurants that just happen to serve BBQ. Not saying they aren't great for a meal, but what gets them listed is their location.
Heirloom BBQ is fantastic. He's just a country boy and she's from Korea. They both are trained chefs. They have 1 table or you stand outside and eat. Again, not exactly traditional BBQ, but awesome none the less.
The best traditional bbq is Southern Soul on St Simons Island. #41 on the list.

I've been to #6 on the list, The Salt Lick, about 45 minutes outside of Austin ,TX. It was really good, but the peach cobbler is what floored me there.

Been to Pappy's in St Louis (#14). It was good, but not as good as Smokin' Pig for sure...

1. The ribs have gone way down in quality. That used to be all that I ordered and now you couldn't pay me to eat them. Really disappointing. 2. The cobblers need to be worked on. I've had all of them over the past year and they are all just fruity goop. The best part of cobbler is the crust and crunchiness, not the fruit filler. 3. Pork rinds? Seriously? 4. Need to add a few sides that are a must have with BBQ. Green beans, baked beans, mac and cheese. Maybe also a healthy side or two so you can justify inhaling the whole plate of BBQ. 5. The rolls have gotten worse. I used to look forward to eating these and now they have gotten too dry and less buttery.
Maybe I will just contact a manager at some point to voice my opinion. But none of these will stop me from eating there. I had it 3 times last week alone. The brisket.... oh man.
