Help me out here. What am I missing?

I see a lot of statements about commitment from the AD and the Trustees. Why don't more people attend the games? Recruiting questions. And the dead horse "should he stay or should he go?" If memory serves me correctly (which is suspect), Purnell didn't just "bolt". As he was leading towards success he dared ask for more from the administration. Towards the end, my understanding was that he and TDP weren't even talking to one another. Brownell was brought in at that time with two directives. Put a respectable team on the floor and don't ask for anything. that was what? 2 AD's ago? Neff seems to be asking a little more out of the program.

I would be curious to see the attendance numbers for Saturday games verses those during the week. As a great deal of Clemson's fan base comes from out of town, how often would you go for a Wednesday night game at 9:00 if you had to drive an least an hour, deal with traffic, etc. several times in 4 months? It's hard to say if it would be different, but I believe if you put a good product out there, people will show up.

I frankly don't see how anyone recruits in basketball anymore. Transfer portal, one-dones. The kids now with NBA dreams and NIL deals are asking how can you help MY brand not how can I contribute to yours. I think Zion Williamson showed us that. All I heard was that it was a done deal. He'll be a one and done, but he's coming to Clemson. Nope. That spoke volumes about the current state of college basketball in general, and Clemson basketball specifically (if that was indeed the case).

Very few people outside of Clemson had even heard of Dabo Sweeny before he became head coach. They sure know him now. If there is a "Dabo" out there for us in basketball, bring him in. It's a roll of the dice to be sure. Change always is.

At the time, monies were not really being spent on basketball. Keep in mind also, this was 13 years ago before a huge chunk of money came rolling in to this institution. That being said, The powers that be didn't feel the need to pour money into the basketball program. Since then, facilities have been built, so Brownell didn't really need to ask for an upgrade in facilities and Littlejohn has been remodeled.
Believe it or not, there are still those around that would just as soon tear down Littlejohn if it meant they were going to build a parking garage for football!

You made my point on recruiting. And it's not over simplified. CJ was the game changer. Zion would have been that guy. Waiting on the next ship.

Brownell had done exactly what he was hired to do. That was the point of all that. The administration is (or should be) asking, Do we want more than that? Do we want to compete on a national level? And is Brownell the guy to take us there? Those are the questions THEY need to address. A good start (if the current NCAA system stays in place) would be to beef up the basketball schedule in November and December. Painfully obvious that it wasn't our wins that mattered this year, but our losses. Mainly the ones in November and December. Losing to Louisville didn't do us any favors either.
