me.

I hardly speak with NYE girl anymore. Actually don't even have her number in my phone. We had a major falling out back in August on account of her coming to my house and crying about how her boyfriend left town and didn't talk to her for two weeks prior. She then comes over 2-3 weeks later and was flirty but I did not push the envelope. Next day I get a text from her asking if she could come kiss me. That wasn't for me, but for the idiot boyfriend who she now "Wasn't really with but not really broken up either."

I inform her that she probably should have told me about that instead of letting me make a fool out of myself. I had to see her the next day. Didn't talk much. Then didn't hear from her for another 3 weeks until I had to see her again. Didn't talk at all that night but she text me after work to say she found an apartment. Since she is related to my bosses, I choose to be cordial.

How much time have you got?

Oct 3, 2013, 12:09 PM

I typed this out a while ago, and it's been sitting on my google drive..

From about 4th grade up through high school, I was constantly picked on by my two siblings and step dad. It was pretty much all I dealt with every waking minute of the day. I was medicated on several drugs (first wellbutrin, then doxipin, then prozac, then paxil, finally celexa) to deal with the depression and multiple suicide attempts, and it didn't help very much, when the evenings were often spent fending off insult after insult, while my mom did nothing. After I graduated (being the only one of three of us to do so) and went to college at Clemson, I started to notice that life was a good bit better for me. I wasn't heavily guarded about things, but I was having a lot of fun, and my grades ended up slipping. After my third semester (spring of 2001), I found out there was going to be a 45% tuition increase that pretty much meant I wouldn't be going back.

When I got home from Clemson, things just got worse. My sister moved back home with my parents (she was a year and a half older than me, and they had previously had a falling out), and it resulted in me being forced to sleep on the couch. I worked a job that summer, but by the end of May, I needed to get out. I moved out for a month, draining my bank account in the process (I was only working a job at an Arby's). Finally, I call my mom, and ask If I can move back, now that my sister found a place. My mom says yes, and I end up moving back. In early July, my mom finds out that she will be getting a large chunk of back child support my dad owed her, and so she tells me that she'll use it to give me a last chance at proving myself at Clemson. This was possibly the best news I had heard that year.

On August 1, about 18 days before I'm supposed to go back to school, my sister comes over and tells my mom she's pregnant. The kicker to this was her quote was, "I didn't know you could still get pregnant when you were about to start taking birth control." Suddenly, my mom's "I'm going to be a grandmother!!!!!1!!!11111" gear kicks in, and my mom gets excited about this. My sister says that she and the guy that knocked her up are going to go to the courthouse and get married. I got a bad feeling that day. Five days later, my sister comes back and tells my mom that she wants a wedding in six weeks, two days before my birthday. My mom is more than happy to oblige, and tells me that this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, so she is going to spend the money on this, rather than on sending me back to school.

Thirteen days before going back to college to try and redeem myself, I had it taken away from me. Looking back, I honestly wonder why I'm not in jail for murder right now. Later that month (August 25th was my first day), I found a job working at a call center, making reservations for Holiday Inn and its Hotels, where my mom worked and still works. Training was two weeks. I came off the training deck the week before September 11th. I was working a 5PM-2AM shift, and had just woken up when the first of planes hit the towers. My phone rang 25 minutes later, telling me to get in, and I can work as much overtime I want until the end of my shift. I worked from 1PM until 2AM that day, cancelling reservations and dealing with people angry at me because of cancellation policies that still made them pay for their rooms. This was reversed a few days later, but the way people talked to me that day is something I still remember to this day.

The next while goes along rather slowly, but I wind up getting a car in October. This is the next big fight I have, because I drove the car three blocks home without an adult or a license (I had my learner's permit, but was unable to get my license because my sister was involved in a hit-and-run in a Wal-mart parking lot), and *gasp* I bought a car for myself. It was a 1986 Nissan Stanza that had sliding doors on both rear sides, and was a rather good car, until I unknowingly cracked the oil pan, and caused the engine to seize. That Christmas, I got nothing it was the first time, but not the last.

In January, a promotion came open. It was for a "control room specialist" within the call center, really, though, it was just mindless data entry and calling people to tell them they could go home. I had the job for a bit more than a year. There was so much hounding to go home that it became a rule that people could not bother the control room about it, but they still did. One day, I finally enforced the rules and took somebody's name off the list, and got fired for it. Of all the things to get fired for, I got it for enforcing the rules. The unemployment office ruled that I was terminated without cause, so I had benefits for a few months, from the day I was terminated, while I was finding my next job. I decided from here on that I would never take a crap job again.

I ended up landing a job as an assistant media relations director for a minor league hockey team, I ended up bouncing to a couple other teams and when I got home sick, I wound up back in Charleston. It wasn't a great job, but it paid the bills for the time being. I enjoyed the work I did, but the scheduling was pretty brutal 9-5 M-F, plus nights, weekends and holidays. In January 2004, I got cut down from full time to part time, meaning i was only working game situations. I wound up getting a job with Comcast and working as an account executive. Two months after I started the new job, my mom told me I had to move out. She and my step-dad were moving to a two bedroom townhouse, and all the kids were getting the boot. This was about the time I stopped talking to them the first time.

About 4 months after I started the job, I realized I had talents I could use to make things better. I did have some programming knowledge, and I used it to the best of my ability, writing a piece of software that would let me process order logs, and find out which of my co-workers were screwing up orders and causing people to call in. The application I developed wound up saving the system I worked in over half a million dollars, and I wound up being promoted twice as a result , from an account executive at the system level to an analyst, then up to a Programmer/Analyst at Division IT in Atlanta (In 2006). I got a call a few months after moving from my mom asking if we could meet up and talk, and I did, thinking it might mend the relationship. While we talked, I told her that I decided that I would go back to school once I paid off my student loans, and had some savings to use, since I figured I would have to pay my own way.

In February 2008, I decided it was time to go back to school. I left my job in March, and set it up to cash out my 401k to pay for school in August 2008 (talk about good timing). I subleased a place in Clemson for the summer, and finally had some time to enjoy myself. I started back in school, and changed my major to economics, since it always felt like I enjoyed it more than Computer science, and I can still use the data mining skills I learned to work in Economics. I found out that I had the option of resetting my GPA through a process called academic renewal, which meant I would have none of my previous credits, but I wouldn't be burdened with the previous failures. Things were going well, and I had some extra money, and I invited my parents up for the football game and to celebrate my birthday. I got told that they didn't have the money to drive from Charleston for the game (I had told them I would take care of the rest, since I had the money). Calling home to talk to my mom the Monday after the weekend, I get told to call her cell, since she was driving back from Winston Salem and visiting my cousin. At this point, I finally had my fill with all of them. Sent them all a letter telling them not to contact me again. After doing that, a lot of my depression finally went away. I was more fun to be around, and life got much better. Every time any of them have tried to contact me, I've given them the standard die in a fire answer.

Five years later, and I've graduated with a 3.5 GPA and got a good job. I don't think I could have done any of it if I were still talking to anybody in my family. Things are a lot better now.

TL;DR: Broom rape is a beautiful flower.

Oct 3, 2013, 2:26 PM [ in reply to How much time have you got? ]

AKA where are they now, as I've found out:

Brother - Lives in Kentucky making glassware and drug pariphenilia, has the dental profile of a methhead.

Sister - Divorced from the guy she was shotgun wed to, married to an Obed she banged in HS, primarily to #### off her son's father.

Stepdad - Works in the sheet metal shop for a construction company
in Charleston.

Mom - Works/Worked in the same office with celtic's "sister." Fortunately, their paths rarely cross.
I found this out at the spring vomit festival.

Moral of the story: Life is rough. Life is rougher when you're stupid.

You aint kiddin. I've had 2 rough split ups in my short time

on this earth. First one was when I broke off my engagement to the girl I had been engaged to for about a year. I had several very honest conversations with her about the way things were going and how my feelings were changing. Had several conversations about changes we both needed to make to make it happen. She had the mindset of "after the wedding things will work themselves out and be ok" (her mother was divorced 4 times, working on 5) It was about 4 months before the wedding was to happen that I finally had to call it off. We lived together and had to do so for about a full month after the breakup until logistically things worked out for her to move. I basically laid on the hardwood floor in the next room each night listening to her cry. Every once in a while she would come in and unleash a slew of nasty things at me. Had a lot of tough days at work as I was only getting an hour of sleep per night every night.

In hindsight I think I saved us both a good bit of hard times and money. I'm sure she sees that now, I just wasn't blinded by the whole wedding thing back then so I was able to see it.

The girl that came after her was the next one. I will have to type that story at a later date as I've got a meeting to close the day. It involved lots of crazy ####. Her lortab addiction that forced me to delve into some of the darker sections of my phone's contact list each month haha, a tornado, a couple trips to mental health facilities, threats against my dog, etc.
