mediocrity? We have played 9 games vs. ranked opponents, 4 were at home (3 vs. UVA and 1 vs. SC) 1 was neutral vs SC in Greenville and 4 away. We only won 4 of 9. That's less than half. Are you kidding me?
I'm not satisfied at all.
We are letting programs like NC St and UVA walk past us while we sit idle making excuses.
When i was younger "next year" was a saying we always heard our opponents say, now we say it in every sport.

They also have a head coach who is a great recruiter. Its not all in facilities. I do agree that the DK project needs to be addressed and quickly.

We beat NC State at NC State - argument invalid. Virginia decided if they were going to play baseball they weren't going to screw around and invested nearly $40 million.

So we should just expect to be second rate because we have other schools that play baseball in our "region". I don't buy it.
40 MILLION????????? for the upgrades to Davenport field. Try 4.5 million. Hell scar's stadium didn't even cost 40 million. This is what bothers me about certain fans that are now making up excuses as to why we have fallen so low. Excuses that are not even close to accurate
COMPLETED: August 2010 Davenport Field Expansion Cost: $4.5 million Details: Davenport Field, dedicated in 2002, was expanded recently to seat 5,074 and provide training and practice facilities (climate-controlled batting cages), an expanded clubhouse, team and visiting lockers and a Hall of Fame.

The guy above says he remembers when we were considered consistent national contender. What did we do nationally? We were once an ACC power.
Are you guys looking to go undefeated, like Clemson used to do in baseball? When the ACC had no baseball teams. Are we not winning CWS games like we used to?
I'm all about being good, and winning. We can be better, but to act like Clemson baseball has fallen so low is a bit overboard.

I think it is also fair to say this team has the potential to start Clemson back on the rise. We were a bad team the last two years and this team has already shown the ability to surpass those teams. No one is saying we are back on top but it is good to see progress instead of regression like basketball.

I got my numbers mixed up and was admittedly rounding up. But South Carolina did spend nearly $40 million, UNC spent $25.5 million on their stadium. FSU spent $14 million. I can't find the numbers for UVA again - but it was more than $4.5 total. But you can continue to bash the proven, nationally recognized coach and put your head in the sand about falling behind in facilities. Clemson has coasted on the accomplishments of Wilhelm and Leggett and it is disgusting to watch fans turn on one of the best coaches we've had at any sports - and by proxy you're turning to the teams through your attitude whether you intend to or not. It is obvious that you have some personal issue with the man but try to dress it up as though you're being objective.

Viztiz,
You were just proven wrong. You made some garbage up and got caught. UVA spent 4.5 million on their upgrade. I just copied and pasted it into the thread. That 4.5 million isn't the reason we are now officially their #######
What accomplishments by Leggett? 2 ACC titles in 20 years. Slow freaking clap. Call it whatever you want to. I have never held any loyalty towards Leggett. Bill - yes Jack -hell no
My personal issue involves his wrecking of a once proud program built up by a man who would have NEVER turned the keys over to this.

And this is where you go off the rails - pretending a man who has firmly held Wilhelm's ground has "wrecked" the program. When the actual wins and losses don't support your argument it becomes about winning the tournament. Here's the problem with that - Jack, our coach, has made it clear that Omaha, not the ACC tourney is the goal. It affects the approach. You're free to criticize him for that, even hate him for it. But to act like he's "wrecked" the program while he continues to offer just about any recruit who has ever signed with him a chance to go to Omaha if they stay four years is ridiculous.
And $4.5 isn't the total cost. They've had 3 renovations in the last few years. They've spent considerably more money into it than we have. It matters.

Im sorry....still stuck on this imaginary 40 million dollars you made up regarding this UVA program. The renovation you are referring to occurred in 2010. It was 4.5 million dollars completed. The other renovations you are referring to are
2005- left field fence moved in (little to no money) 2006- a video board was put up
That is it. You made some garbage up and got caught. Feel free to prove this wrong.

I admitted it was a mistake. honestly not sure know what I saw to come up with that number. I had done a long post recently about stadium cost at Oregon State, Fresno State, UNC, FSU and UVa. I'd think someone who got busted not understanding the DH rule but pretending to be a baseball expert would be more forgiving of a mistake.
nice job dodging the other points.

Okay -
Davenport Field built in 2002 for $5 million - source college baseball daily. $4.5 million renovation in 2010 $1 renovation in 2012 - http://www.nbc29.com/story/18972172/davenport-field Currently funding a $14.5 million dollar project. - look at UVA sports page if you care.
While I was incorrect in my first post - $25 million in facilities (this has nothing to do with program budget) is a heck of a lot more than I can find any evidence of Clemson spending.
So, not quite as cut and dried as you say

I counter that their win percentages are nearly identical. As for ACC championships, Wilhelm dealt with a smaller league,, frequently enjoyed home field advantagein the tournamnet, and was even awarded regular season championships during his tenure.
In that regard how is that not holding ground. Jack's stated goal is Omaha. He makes Omaha at a more frequent clip than Wilhelm did. Making the tournament might be easier now than it was then, but making it to Omaha is certainly not easier.
Is the losing ground measured purely in ACC championships? If that is all that matters to you then I'm sure you'll continue to be disappointed. But Jack is not alone in playing the conference tournaments with an eye on the regionals.

Davenport Field was completely razed and rebuilt around 2000. I'm not sure what the final cost was, but it was significantly more than 4 million.
But the bigger thing with UVA is the money they've spent on assitants. They have one of the top staffs in the country. We had to hire a Division 2 pitching coach and rely on volunteer assistants.

done with it. You know the difference between Bill and Jack.
1. Bill built it and put trophies in the case 2. Jack slowly destroyed it and we got rid of the trophy case
Its just that simple. Done explaining it to you.

The baseball team has slipped. And we are watching other schools fly right past us. We use to own UVA in baseball, not anymore. It does always seem like excuses. Time to invest more into this program!!
