Since the PAC and Cali have ruled that no football games

May 13, 2020, 1:52 PM

will be allowed to be played this year, does that mean the Rose Bowl won't be allowed either? Or any other bowls played in CA?

Not necessarily. The Rose Bowl is it’s own entity. It is not owned by the PAC12 or any school in the PAC 12. The Rose Bowl has its own governing body that will make it’s own decisions. No telling what they’ll decide.
No clue on other California Bowls but I’d suspect they’re the same.

Pasedena is in LA County

May 13, 2020, 2:22 PM

The same LA county that just announced that they would still be in lockdown for another 3 months. The decision for the Rose Bowl will be out of their governing body's hands. It'll come down to the mayor and the city council to decide. I wouldn't bet a wooden nickle at 20-to-1 odds on the Rose Bowl being played this year.

many times not to expect sports or concerts before a vaccine. At least not this year. So no chance.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE LAST VACCINE CURED. WAITING

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure if you're directing that specifically towards me, but

May 13, 2020, 9:37 PM

as I spend more time of the year here than in Chas anymore, in healthcare, I try to keep up with what the Governor is planning.

I'm simply passing on his plan as I understand the "4 Phases." Phase 4 is major events after a vaccine.

But I'll go as close as possible and take POLIO FOR $400.

I sure hope we are somewhat back to normal before Jan 1, but we may very well not be.

This year's CFP is supposed to be the Rose/Sugar. Was really hoping Clemson could go to the Rose this time. I think we are all tired of New Orleans anyway. Clemson has been to every major bowl except the Rose. I know we haven't technically been to the Peach since it gained CFP status, but we certainly have been there quite a bit over the years, especially the West and Bowden years it seemed.

I saw that Cal State schools won't be playing. Do you have a link to the Pac 12 teams not playing?

I’m thinking since Southern Cal is a private school they don’t necessarily have to follow the California University System. They could play the Arizona schools and Utah and possibly Colorado plus some other away games. Possibly...

The Second Wave will have hit by the time of the Rose Bowl.

May 13, 2020, 2:45 PM

Ain't gonna be no Rose Bowl.

Or college football.

Or anything until we 1) get an effective treatment 2) hopefully get a vaccine 3) develop herd immunity.

I'm just hoping there's a 2021 football season at this point.

1 and 2 will never happen, and 3 can’t happen in states with lockdowns. The shutdown was supposedly put in place to prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed, that didn’t happen so now they change the criteria.

There will be effective treatments and they will evolve over time becoming more effective. But that said, I think you can forget about the Rose Bowl. I am not optimistic about next year either unfortunately.

The healthcare has not at any point been overwhelmed in California yet they are still making proclamations about staying shut down the rest of the year. The worse they make it the more of that sweet bail out money they can get to bail out their pensions. If millions starve then thats OK with them sine they'll blame Trump.

ATL PAW MAN, where does this thinking come from (beyond CNN and the other "never Trump" media agents)? We've had a "vaccine" for influenza for 50+ years and still have 10's of thousands of people die each year from the flu. How can anyone believe we're going to come up with a vaccine for COVID 19 in a year or two that will protect the world from this dreaded virus? At some point, we're going to have to recognize that the threat of illness is an inescapable reality. We should all take precautions against it. We should all strive to stay in good physical condition and eat right to keep our immune systems strong. We should all practice good hygiene. But we have to live our lives. And life includes recreation and entertainment; the best of which is Clemson Football. These young men deserve the right to play for the 2020 National Championship. I don't care if it's in California. But it's wrong to allow politically motivated hysteria to deprive them of it. Go Tigers!

Of Duke University, so they could move it again. I doubt they’ll move it because it’s becoming obvious that the continued shutdown is political and has nothing to do with science.

There are 2 public university systems in CA: The UC system includes schools like UCLA and California (10 universities in all). The other is the CA State System which is much larger and includes schools like San Diego State.

As of this morning the CA State System announced they were considering closing for the fall semester. Not officially confirmed yet.

I don't believe the UC system has made any announcements.

Stanford and USC are private schools. They've made no announcements yet.

UCLA, Cal, Stanford and USC are members of the Pac-12 along with 8 other universities not in California.

The Rose Bowl stadium is owned by the city of Pasadena. The Rose Bowl is managed by the Rose Bowl Operating Company.
