On Walt's show today, he and a caller were discussing the NC

State game, and Walt emphasized how State beat us 30 to 10 in first downs. He went on to say that State has basically their entire defense back and Leery looked better than ever in the spring game. All true. However, one reason the had such a lopsided advantage in first downs was because WE kept going 3 and out,3 and out,3 and out. The offense was terrible. Dropped passes,Oline had not yet begun to gel,Ross failed on 2 huge chances to make a play that would have won the game, and we still had Galloway starting a TE. In addition, either Bresee did not play in that game or he went out during the game.
And yet,it still went to sudden death. So, here is what a real estate agent thinks, for what it is worth. The running game should be better this year and clicking by game 5 when we play State this year. The TE's will be much better. For the life of me, I never understood why Tony preferred Galloway so much.He was getting blown up by linebackers when he was blocking, and dropping passes when he was receiving. To me, he was the worst TE on the team, including walkons and still played a lot of snaps. I fully expect the receivers to do their jobs this year. Grisham has to get it done. If they don't,we will not beat State. Also, we open with GT. If the game is close at the end of the first half and the offense looks just like last year, I hope we turn it over to Cade starting the second half. If he moves the ball and puts points on the board, offensive problem solved. If not,we've got 3 weeks to figure it out.
And last, the defense has to come up with a couple of turnovers. Dline has to reak havoc and I expect the will. A healthy Bresee,Davis,Williams will make a lot of difference!

Since I last heard Walt 3 years ago

I’ve been taken off blood pressure meds, my liver is no longer considered fatty and I’ve developed erections that have been described as “siloesque”.
While NCSt is led by DD, they will always underachieve. Last years game is a prime example of that. Clemson had no business being in that game, but could’ve easily won at the end.

I think Dabo will put him in for a series or 2 in the first half. I think Dabo will want to see how he reactsto the big game surroundings before he has to put him in. It may also help DJ get his head on straight. An added bonus is it'll make Big Dave mad.

Are our guys participating in voluntary workouts this summer?
Jun 21, 2022, 6:12 AM

Because they didn’t last summer and that’s the difference maker.
Don’t show “This is Why We Work” if they’re not putting in the work.

For some reason last summer, DJ and the WRs did not work out together voluntarily. Qualk and Kelly discussed this some last season.

Doesn't amount to "our guys", like the whole team. The vast majority of guys were in voluntary workouts.

I dont recall reading where our guys did not participate in summer work last year. Frankly it is surprising. Was it discussed or reported on Tnet?

...right up to the point where you said our defense has to come up with "a couple of turnovers" for us to win.
That kind of talk is typically reserved for NC games against 'Bama....lol.
Dabo has his work cut out for him.

We had a pretty good defense last year that could not get

off the field. Leery is very good. Probably the best QB in the league. But, the did lose Emeke Emezie who made a circus catch last year the ultimately beat us. Also, we lost two very good corners. So, yeah, I think we need a couple of turnovers to get stops. Remember,it went to overtime because State missed THREE field goals in regulation.

Or if we don’t get turnovers, 7-10 sacks might do the trick as well.

I'm still hoping/assuming our offense won't be quite as terrible as last year.
If it's as bad as it was last year's you're probably correct though.

Thats the only question that matters. Outside of that we are better than NC freaking State.

State. Don't know why, but we do. Kind of like Georgia versus South Carolina.

Last year has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this year. You can try and base some sort of outcome on last year's game but it's just an educated guess. Clemson is way more talented than NanCy St. and the Tigers should be embarrassed the way they played. There is one thing that you can never truly measure and that is motivation. Dabo is probably better than any coach in history to use outside factors to get his team mentally ready. Trust me when I say Dave "Dummy" Doeren's head smiling and puffing on a cigar WILL be in the locker room that week.

Our problem is very simple. DJU sucks. In a down year by Clemson standards last year, we were still way more talented than everyone on the schedule. Walt just can’t say what he knows is true on air. Clemson would have raped State last year with any other QB in the ACC. So sick of the guy…just transfer and let’s roll with Klubnick.

That last attempted catch didn't look like he even tried to fight off the defender. Yes his arm was being held. But another year in the weight room would've put some weight on him.

I wonder if Bana fans have preseason angst over teams like Vandy or Mizzou? If we expect outr team to return to the 2015-2019 caliber, we “the fans” need to as well. If we can’t beat State handily, then all talk about rankings and playoffs should be banned!
