“Television commercials don’t impact game time significantly. From 2018-2020, games not televised finished only about two minutes sooner than those televised”
This statement seems unbelievable to me. The frequency and length of commercial breaks in college football seems to have increased way more than 2 min total in the last few years.
Not even sure what a “non televised game” is in FBS anyway? What games aren’t available to view now, whether via traditional methods or streaming?

First time I took my kids to a game I pointed that dude out and told them “that is the most powerful man in the stadium”.

Out of bounds used to stop the clock during the entire game.

Not just in the last two minutes of the first and second half.

The average single TV timeout is usually more than two minutes and there are literally dozens of them within a typical game. Lies, #### lies and statistics.

by the timer on the field - and that doesn’t count the time before the numbers come up and the time it takes to get the play off after the guy gets off the field

They are wrong. If it’s a primetime game you are looking at close to 4 hours. The NFL games are much more enjoyable to watch from a pacing perspective.

I agree. Frustrating to see the guy in red on the field. Screws up momentum and takes the crowd out of it. We used to want to be on tv but since I’m at the game let’s not do tv for a few games. Dang that would be awesome for the fans in the stadium.

IIRC, there are 83 :30 commercial slots in a CFB game. Sure 41:30 is “insignificant.” Which politician’s mouth did that come from?

Media outlet fails to cast aspersions on its own advertisers. Truly shocking.

That's because games are still played under TV timeout rules.
Want to shorten games? Have 1 or 2 fewer TV timeouts per half.
Maybe also have booth reviews where the instant replay can judge many aspects quickly without the need to stop play, haul the special screen out to the field, get the ref to come over and put on the headset, then watch reviews for 2 minutes. Video replay for in or out of bounds is usually cut and dried, for example. A signal to the ref to hold play for a ruling, then signaling the result to the ref. If booth official cannot make the decision in 30 seconds or 1 minute, the play stands as called.

It's not the TV breaks that lengthen games today like they

are. It's the 2-minute minimum break whenever anything is contested or an injury is going on. Reviews are the biggest culprit. Refs started deferring to not blowing plays dead and waiting til replay just in case. 2 minute minimum every time no matter how clear the call. At games there are clocks that start at 2:00 and count down after instance in plain view.
Considering the televised and non-televised comparisons, TV adds 2 minutes total it seems.
