Serious question: What style of BBall can beat coots?
Mar 25, 2017, 9:12 PM

Coots are playing NASTY defense and are shooting so much better than they have all season. Is there a team remaining in the tournament that can match-up well against coots? Obviously coots need to shoot closer to their normal selves.

they always play good defense, but taking a few days off early from the sec tourney has given their legs a rest to help then hit some jumpers...

As bad as anybody that has ever worn the Paw would deerly hate to sea the cooots win anything close to a championship, even if it was in a maggot eating contest, yep, eating them selves. It could force the turning point in our own BB program. I really don't think that Tiger fans will handle that to well, and the administration fax and E-Mail would be loaded daily with a ton of talking chit. And the newly rebuild/renovated Littlejohn would be like a ghost town during BB season until the BB program had been fixed. There isn't any reason that the BB program is in the shape that it is in except for the head man controlling it all. And if enough fan went on a ticket buying strike, they would have to do something to make the fans happy or just close Littlejohn down bc, it would be creating negative income flow by just turning the lights on for a game, day or night!!!

It'll take consistent shooting from beyond the arch & about 25 minutes of hard defense in the paint. They didn't get Duke or Baylor at their best shooting games & that allowed them to play close until they just wore them both down & pulled away late in both games like they did.

Coach Martin is smart, tough, and tough again, many times over!
The coots, under his direction, will be really hard to beat; however, a tight pack of "zebras" could break the coots's heart!

Two answers: somebody has to shot lights out from three point range while at the same time keep Thornwell from getting loose. Holding him in check would be critical to success.
We handled Usuck this year without his presence, but likely would have lost had he played. Martin has a team enjoying the entire experience.
Go Tigers!

They lucked into a weak bracket designed to give Duke an easy path to the final four. They were underestimated by the committee as well.

That is just stupid to even say that and shows you know nothing about basketball.
1) Villanova was the defending champion and the consensus overall top seed. 2) Duke was arguably the hottest team coming into the tournament and had just won the best conference. My Devils were also the favorite in Vegas to win it all. 3) Baylor was undefeated and ranked #1 in Jan. 4) Florida - won 14 games in the SEC, Had a top ten BPI. 5) Virginia - was a great team in the ACC and won 22 games. The two-time defending ACC regular season champ with a great coach in a tough conference. 6) SMU - Won 30 games.
The EAST bracket was clearly the toughest with Duke and Villanova at the top. The fact that upsets happen including USC beating the 2 and the 3 does not make the bracket weak.
Your agenda to downplay the wins sounds like USC fans saying the ACC is weak in football, Clemson would not have even made the 4 if they played in the SEC every week and Ohio St. sucked. All are equally stupid statements.

The coots have definitely benefitted by being inserted into a weak bracket designed to give Duke an easy path to the final four. IMO Fla. has to play lights out to win.

Yes because the deffending champ is easy and Wisconsin who has been to the sweet 16 3 years in a row is just a horrible team. UF has no tradition and didnt beat Kentucky this year. Duke is horrible and Baylor did nothing this year. Get over yourselfs guys. I do not think Usuck would bear Unc or Kentucky but hell we went to ot with uNc.

The Gators should ask Brownell what it is that he does , it's worked over the last couple of years against the Coots.

Dude was a foulmachine all regular season, now cant even sniff 3 fouls
I unfortunately agree that they will likely be a final 4 team, and outside change at natty where honestly anything can happen in a 40 minute game. Stinks but true. Martin's scheme was perfect for this roster.

Watched the Oregon / Kansas game last night and thought Oregon was awesome and believe they could beat the Coots by 10.

The winner if UK UNC today wins it all IMo. If they play decent no other teams have the talent to beat them. Oregon did look good yesterday and Zaga is strong. Florida has beat UK. I just do not think teams come close in talent to those 2 but sometimes the ball doesnt go into the basket. That said I think the Natty is basically today.

Get Thornwell in foul trouble. Go uptempo in second half. But then I don't watch their games or much basketball.

All right, serious answer!
Mar 26, 2017, 10:11 AM
|
|
(1) Start early bench-jockeying and riding the refs about Silva, he is getting away with murder inside, push them into making calls; (2) Assign a player to follow Thornwell everywhere on defense and OFFENSE to wall him off(constant screens), wear him out and get him out of his comfort zone; (3) Full court press on their point guards, both are good but sloppy with the ball and will make questionable passes under pressure, fill passing lanes; (4) BLOCK OUT UNDER THE BASKET on defense and offense, they have three players who like to hang out there in the paint and get cheap baskets on offense from rebounds; (5)Demand the refs enforce the three second rule(see #4)
