New Orleans Hotels suggestions wanted

Mar 11, 2021, 1:47 PM

So Greenr and fam are heading to Gulf Shores for Spring Break. This is the whole family, so 12 total. At the end of the week, Greenr, WifeofGreenr, and kids are possibly going to head to New Orleans to spend a night. Any of yous guys got suggestions for where I should stay down there. For the Sugar Bowel, we stayed far out of town and Ubered in, but kids were not with us. This time we need to be walking distance to French Quarter, Jackson Square, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, even the ones that inevitably say to fuck off.

Excellent idea!

Given that Greenr can lean on the expertise of FBCoachSC® for the best $99 camping set from Big Lots, I mean.

Sheraton on Canal Street

Good location, very short walk to Burbon St.

You probably know this, but here goes.....

Ain't many places AT ALL safe for walking in that shidhole. Also with young kids, do know that Burbon St is a fugging circus 366 days per year, 25 hours per day. Don't think for a second that on a random Tuesday at 10AM you won't see hookers, drag queens, weed being smoked, etc. all over the place. This even if there is no "special event" in town.

FUN FACT: A college buddy of mine pissed into a girl's purse at that very hotel circa 1993 after we were on about a 20 hour bender on Burbon St with lots of party favors. He was obviously blacked out when it happened. She was very unhappy about this transgression when she figgered it out the next morning. The end.

Yeah, I am aware. Bourbon Street aint on the menu, except

Mar 11, 2021, 1:59 PM

maybe a quick stroll near. Might ride trolley into Garden District, Jackson Square, Cafe DuMonde, the church from Princess and the Frog, maybe some cocaine and a hooker or two, standard family friendly stuff.

I would be really careful in where you stay, especially if you go the AirBNB route. Some of the worst parts of NOLA are very close to the French Quarter. I love the city and used to live near there, but its true.

That said, I would recommend the Embassy Suites in the Warehouse District (I think its on Julia Street). Its affordable, in a safe area, and easy walking distance to all the main attractions. Its maybe a half mile from the quarter. Although the warehouse district is less touristy, it has tons of great restaurants. Its also close to the Garden District and shopping on Magazine Street. Embassy Suites also has a free happy hour (or did pre-COVID).

The downtown Sheraton, W French Quarter, and Roosevelt Hotel are all good hotels that are closer or in the quarter but I can't speak to their prices since I only stayed there for work trips.

This place is just outside quarter near the WW2 museum.

We stayed here for Sugar Bowl. Not bad, price reasonable and can park on site and can walk to the Quarter - but you probably don't want to make that walk at night.

Stayed there for work.
Saw Jason Statham, Bill Murray and that Person of Interest dude there.
Big rooms

If it good enough for them, its good enough for me. Right next to the casino and 2 blocks from the waterfront

about a 10 min walk to bourbon st

I have a few that I like....

Mar 11, 2021, 2:50 PM

The Pelham has some character and is normally reasonably priced. It is quick walk to Harrahs, quick walk to the Quarter, and only 2 blocks from Mothers, which is where you will eat breakfast each day.

Lyric at 451 is pretty cool. It is closer to Mothers, but a few blocks further from the Quarter, but still a very easy walk.

A block closer to Harrahs is Cambria Hotel, which I've stayed at a few times. Also normally priced well.

When I have stayed in the Quarter (or on the edge) it's been at the Marriott on Canal. Sometimes can good rates with the GE Energy corporate code (which is GEE) and I've never been asked for proof of employment at any hotel in the country using that code (Marriott brands). I will eat breakfast there when there for work. They have a good breakfast buffet with beignets.

Loews Hotel NO

Very walkable to all the stuff. Not so close that you'll have to step over puddles of vomit to walk in the door.

For the CFB game we stayed at the Homewood Suites by Hilton at 317 N Rampart. Right on the edge of the French Quarter and easy access to I-10.
