I'm currently looking to install a subpanel in a detached shed around 100' from the house. It's a straight run down the fenceline, however I've got a sprinkler system in the way. I'm assuming 811 won't mark irrigation lines, so what's the best way to locate the lines without digging up the entire yard? Divining rod?

Breastmilk is in the freezer, angus is peppered.

Rent a trencher and trench from A to B

You will locate them.

Yep, that's the best way really

Just trench the thing and see if you hit them. If you do, it's a 5 minute repair. Guy who did our french drains did it that way. He says it's easier just to dig the trench, cut the lines, then patch them back, than trying to locate them, then hand dig around them all, or dig the whole thing carefully by hand.

So yeah, assuming there's nothing other than sprinkler lines, trench it and just fix the break wherever it happens.

most time efficient method is just cut the sprinkler lines

and repair. Odds are you'll never get through without hitting one anyways.

That's how contractors do it most of the time, not worth the pain of trying to locate - and then avoid - those little tiny lines.

That's kind of what I was thinking.***

All you need is a pair of pliers.***

not knowing any details on this, hard to advise

cut off the system completely before you start so you only lose water in the lines.
I assume you know where the main is and can avoid it, just the feeder lines are vulnerable.

When I worked on a golf course, this is what we did. Even though we knew exactly where 90% of the lines were, we'd still hit a couple any time we trenched, some were buried so shallow. Just fix the breaks when it's over, cheap and easy, some PVC and glue.

Just tie the wire to the chain link fence with zip ties.

Make sure it high enough above the ground so that you don't nick it with your cousin's weed eater that you borrow from him every 5 weeks when it's time to mow the rocks and clay.

You know where the heads are.

Jun 1, 2021, 4:27 PM

Just don't dig between any two heads.

Biggest pain is if you cut the wires

Jun 1, 2021, 4:31 PM
