Good morning everybody. How was your weekend?

May 10, 2021, 7:49 AM

Friday night just hung around the house.

Saturday, did some tinkering in the woodshop, got a bird house build in 45 minutes or so then off to lunch and beers with Catahoula, his sweet lady some some of their friends. Fun times.

Sunday, got a late start but went down to Croft State park to see what we could see.

Friday: Drove up to Greenville for the Mother's Day weekend. Battled the ###### traffic. Saw some friends and had my favorite Chinese restaurant.

Saturday: Helped out the in-laws with some yard work, then off to The Commons to see that aerozeptallica guy. He's okay. Met some other friends, too, and drank some good beer.

Dinner that night with my parents at Copper River Grill. That place is severely overrated. Potential review to follow.

Sunday: Lunch with the in-laws. Take-out from same Chinese place. Got to play with young niece and nephew. Drove back to Charleston through more ###### traffic. Really, is there ever a time anymore when that is a smooth drive?

Fri - McJr and I went to church for kids' nerf war, pizza, and spend the night. Did not make it through the spend the night part b/c I failed to bring any of his animals.

Sat - Family trip to Paris Mtn State Park with picnic for mother's day celebration, cooked ribeyes for dinner.

Sun - Church in the morning, piddled around the house until my side of family came over for mother's day. Spent a lotta time playing outside, ate wings, and lots of dessert.

Mothers day.

May 10, 2021, 8:04 AM

Saturday wife went to get a manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, hair cut, dye, and whatever else she could think of....

Soccer game was good, but middle son's team still lost by a goal. They're 1-1. I only say this because only parents keep score.

Went and bought flowers and cards Saturday. Wife got an SD card for her phone as her current one is fried. Slept, and ate BBQ chicken for supper.

Sunday was church, Mother's day at home, then at inlaws. Then took the kids to see mom as she has a UTI and couldn't come to the party. Got her some flowers, a funny card (oldest son picked it), and went home. Ate some Oscar fish FIL caught in a ditch along I-75 in Florida. Pretty good eating. Pretty good eating. Good eating fish. They're good eating. Did I mention they're tasty and good to ea4f3efv3eervffn3pdefcgr37owi4rg3r47f6g43g2wcvfu7

Overall 8/10

Friday, took Ms Wilbur out to Calhoun Corners amongst all the gradumacation parties. Mixed reviews here. DO NOT ORDER THE BEEF WELLINGTON. Mine came out raw. not Gordon Ramsey raw, we're talking slab it off and serve it up raw. Sent it back. Came back still raw, not rare. The only thing hot was the plate. Bummer.

Sattidy, did some shopping & planting. Grilled some brats.

Sunday, boated somewhere, anchored up had had a nice Mother's Day on-board picnic. Wine was consumed. Grilled a chicken later. Alcohol was involved.

9.227/10 - minus 3.44 cuz the Wellington sucked.

Not overly exciting, but no complaints.

May 10, 2021, 8:28 AM

Friday, a completely relaxing do-nothing Friday night. Other than getting into the bourbon a little bit and working through a couple of new tunes on the bass, I pretty much sat in the Bog Chair like a zombie.

Saturday, up to walk the pup, then off to Greenville to doing the tasting to choose the menu at Cityrange Steak House for Joonyer's wedding rehearsal dinner in July. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts...ate way too much in order to try everything and everything was very good. Back home early afternoon to get the pup out, then off to go find a belt and shirt for the wedding we're going to this coming Saturday. I haven't bought any kind of clothing in well over a year, and the thing I noticed is that the supply chain has obviously caught up to the clothing industry. Back home to drink beers and watch TV, skipped on going to a party on the lake we were invited to in the next cove over but I could hear the pop country band clearly in my front yard.

Sunday, long walk with the pup, home to get cleaned up then too the family up to Belmont, NC for Mother's Day brunch at The Bottle Tree. Haven't been to Belmont in years, and they've done an amazing job on their downtown. I guess they have a very wealthy contingent of lake dwellers just outside of town to support all the upscale restaurants they have there. The Bottle Tree food was phenomenal, and the back yard where they have live music was awesome. Highly recommend if you're in the area. Back home to get the pup out, Joonyer came over to bring Mother's Day gifts and help install a tailgate latch assembly in the Toyota truck. After Joonyer & fiancé left, I played bass for about an hour, then sat down to watch Fear The Walking Dead, then crashed.

18.75/19 Covids, I feel like all I did was eat...and eat WELL.

One Jounger, one son, and two daughters-of-old pals this summer. I'll have weddinged in Asheville, Mt. Airy, Raleigh, and Greenville by the end of the summer. I guess four weddings beats four funerals at this stage of the game. I mean...the food is better, if nothing else.

May 10, 2021, 8:30 AM

Fri - had some happy hours beers with the fellas. Went to golf course late for some chipping and night putting (no daughters of the Dean were involved). Went to Wild Wing and had bad wings.

Sat - helped brother move a washer and dryer out of his house. Ran errands with the kid. Took her to the park. Back to golf course to bang balls and chip. Went to friends house who is moving to Beaufort and hung out.

Sun - Mother's Day of course, so went and played 18 holes (of golf). Late dinner at Longhorn's because the stupidass local pizza place we tried to go to decided to close their kitchen at 8:00 (W - T - F is that about?). Tried to make her a mother again.

All in all, not bad.

The one in Aiken is fairly new, but they still have not figured out how to sauce their wings. The wings are tough, and what little sauce they put on there just falls off. The chicken fingers tossed in sauce are not too bad. I made a poor choice in ordering.

Turned it into a hotel or something. I think the one in N Chs is still open..but I could be wrong about that.

All the Wild Wings went to chit a few years before they closed. The one in Mt P on Coleman just got nasty. We used to walk over there sometimes though because we could get a drink at the bar because noone was there.

May 10, 2021, 11:49 AM

It's the only Charleston area location listed on Wild Wing's web page.

I actually ate there once. For some reason, I can't recall why, we were down there and stopped to eat. I was wearing a ball cap and was about half through dinner, and the manager came by and asked me to take off my hat because it had red colors on it. Apparently, that's a gang thing.

I just looked at him and asked him if I looked like I was in a gang, and he said he had to do that with anyone wearing any colored hats. Eating there was like eating at the Wal Mart down down the street. For the people watching entertainment value alone, it was worth having to take my hat off.

to the "Gold Rush" flavor that they have, I don't really need to go there anymore. You can get that same flavor at most spots that serve wings now. Or, you can combine Honey BBQ sauce with medium-heat buffalo sauce to get the same recipe.

Re: Good morning everybody. How was your weekend?

May 10, 2021, 8:34 AM

Pretty good. Very EAT-ey. Hung out with the neighbors and some friends on Saturday and had a great day with Mom yesterday.

Grilled pork loin - nailed internal at 150-155* after rest:

Skirt steak tacos (marinated in orange and pineapple juices. Dried then rubbed with salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, chile power, onion power and garlic powder) with various trimmings, including fried jalapenos and habanero-lime crema:

Habenero-mango wings. Shallow fried for crispy then baked golden. Sauced and then baked a little more. I love when the sauce is thick and doesn't run off the wings:

Mozzerella-filled meatballs (66% beef 33% pork; panko breakcrumbs) - They meat balls are braised under this spicy marinara with MOAR mozzerella:

Then on Sunday, went to Sam Kendall's in Camden with Mom, who for my money is one of the most consistent spots around.

VERY FAT WEEKEND. Wood do again.

No side effects.

Took it easy and only ran 5 miles Saturday morning just in case there were any side effects. But there were none. Spent Saturday afternoon being lazy on the couch just in case there were side effects. No side effects.

Sunday morning ran 7.5 trail miles in Hitchcock Woods. Took my first tumble ever, tripped over a root. Luckily I sort of fell in slow motion and was able to roll to my side and find a relatively soft landing spot. Pain and some scrapes but nothing broken, ran another 5 miles after the fall. Decided it best to spend Sunday afternoon resting on the couch.

"Every man is my superior, in that I may learn something from him."

The pharmacist actually mentioned that to me.

May 10, 2021, 10:46 AM

As I technically have chronic coronary artery disease I have to check that and get asked extra questions. The pharmacist had to tell me that there was an elevated risk of heart attack after and he also told me that for some reason there was a risk of appendicitis. His belief was that the vaccine can just bring on an existing condition faster, that the person would likely have had the heart attack/appendicitis in the future anyhow.

You did remind me to look up the data:

Serious adverse events were defined as any untoward medical occurrence that resulted in death, was life-threatening, required inpatient hospitalization or prolongation of existing hospitalization, or resulted in persistent disability/incapacity. The proportions of participants who reported at least 1 serious adverse event were 0.6% in the vaccine group and 0.5% in the placebo group. The most common serious adverse events in the vaccine group which were numerically higher than in the placebo group were appendicitis (7 in vaccine vs 2 in placebo), acute myocardial infarction (3 vs 0), and cerebrovascular accident (3 vs 1). Cardiovascular serious adverse events were balanced between vaccine and placebo groups. Two serious adverse events were considered by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as possibly related to vaccine: shoulder injury possibly related to vaccine administration or to the vaccine itself, and lymphadenopathy involving the axilla contralateral to the vaccine injection site. Otherwise, occurrence of severe adverse events involving system organ classes and specific preferred terms were balanced between vaccine and placebo groups.

Friday...left work early. Major problems with my son. Don't care to go into it now, but Ts&Ps appreciated. Dinner at Outback...blah.

Saturday...fiddled with pond for a bit. Making a little progress in my fight against green water. Headed to Aiken in the afternoon. Took my mom to dinner at Malias. Good dinner all the way around, albeit expensive. Bed.

Sunday...had breakfast at French bakery where Olive Oils used to be. Was dang good. Pastries and crepes were legit. Back to Anderson around noon. Wife-of requested Caribbean dinner so made grilled mahi with mango salsa, cuban-style black bean and rice and tostones. Was dang good if I do say so myself. Apple pie a la mode for dessert.

Friday: cleaned out the grill and got it ready for a lil action. Put this fella on smoke at 11pm.

All those lil tail pieces (from this brisket and a few previous ones) got diced up and tossed in BBQ sauce and brown sugar, and put back on smoke for 2-3 hours.

Meat candy.

Brisket itself was a weird cook--wasn't even close to the stall at 11 hours in, and I got a little nervous about drying it out so I wrapped it. Ended up draining 1-2 cups of rendered fat from the butcher paper when I pulled it 3-4 hours later at 203 degrees, before resting it. Brisket is a finicky ass piece of meat. But it turned out fine.

Debated with the wife on the work it would take to get the kids motivated to go anywhere on Mother's Day. Turns out, they suck and it took 2-3 hours to get those selfish ###### moving, so we finally had "brunch" at like 4pm. Got to see the restaurant staff shortage firsthand, but we were patient and ended up having a good time. Fell asleep on the couch.

The end.

That’s a great price on prime. What kind of wood smoke did you put in it? Even if a brisket doesn’t turn out like you want it, well... there’s always chopped sandwiches and tacos.

it in the first 4-5 hours and ended up running out. Was going to run by Dad's house to get more, but found some cherry chunks that did the trick. Only thing getting smoke at that point was the burnt ends anyway, since the brisket was already wrapped.

Cleaned out the shed and the shop.

Ran my first batch of starter fluid. Came out at about 180. Even after proofing it down and adding a #### ton of cherries all you can taste is fire.

Gonna run some corn starting fluid in a couple of weeks.

Kind of still happening....??

May 10, 2021, 9:32 AM

Friday - grilled some chicken, short rib tortellini, Anti Hero beer and great outside sitting weather. Kids behaved and I watched Mandalorian cartoon with my son. Its actually not that bad.

Saturday - wake up super early, take kids and wife to airport. Got in a long and awesome workout at the gym. Worked on the swim platform for the boat. The teak came back like a champ, looks amazing. Spent some time at coffee shop, went shopping around town, drank A LOT of beer, took a LOT of shots. Went to a neighboring town and bar hopped all night with friends.

Sunday - woke up, went to gym and got my sweat on. Coffee shop again for reflection on the #### show that was Saturday evening/night. Go down to Detroit for the baseball game....cancelled. So we proceeded to the casino where I lost $37 all in all on roulette. Won some back at the one arm bandits. Went and got absolutely hammered at Tin Roof and the whole Red Wings team was at the bar getting completely obliterated. Left there about 6, went to Cliff Bell's and watched a jazz show and had an amazing filet. Got SUPER SUPER drunk and bought a boat load of wine. Paying the bill was not fun. Wrecked on a Lime Scooter, but not too bad, good laughs.

Monday - woke up in a haze. Going to do some work and then.....who knows.

I have learned that I am no good on my own. I could not be single. I would be dead in about a month. Its fun though and I am enjoying the time alone.

9.5/10

Started on Thursday when the Clemson Soccer and Arsenal

May 10, 2021, 9:33 AM

teams both let me down.

Then Friday, I managed to be one of the few people that couldn't get WSP Wilmington tickets. Also got a birthday gift from wife that was weird AF.

Saturday went trail running while the kids rode bikes at Frances Beatty Park in Charlotte, ate at Chuy's, cut grass, did about 50% of the weedeating, grilled chicken in prep for Sunday.

Sunday up early because wife had to be in Church early to open up and stay late to close it down. Went to Mom's for Mother's Day and sat by the pool. The gale force winds and sudden cloudiness made that kinda suck too. My brother made ribs which are always not-too-good so I took the grilled chicken and fed the kids and wife and I made a great salad. Went home and cleaned up some more and went to bed.

Meh/meh for the weekend.

I'm not sure what to think about that other than she had no idea what to buy. That and a Clemson shirt which she used that opportunity to get herself some stuff from Tigertown Graphics as well.

May 10, 2021, 10:29 AM

put the boat in friday afternoon, was going to wet a hook but ended up just riding around it was pretty rough on the water anyway. rode in a poker run saturday, typical poker game for me - didn't win anything. we wound up at one of my favoite bbq places. of course bbq = beer. cleaned up the yard yesterday after church. of course yardwork = beer. sav82wife fell down the stairs like older people will do sometimes so she is out of commission for a while.

420. You can buy bud, munchies, apparel, sunglasses, insurance, credit repair, etc. One stop for everything a head needs.

Friday went to Wally World and picked up goodies. Pork tender loin and mixed veggies for supper.

Saturday was cartoons in the morn. Found key to bike lock. I have been looking for a month in the wrong place.

Sunday was dawn pics @ Lake Murray. No fishermen seen. They slept in. Chicken and string beans for supper.

Got high.

Waiting for granddaughters today. One has birthday. Same as my Mom. Will go and release balloons at grave after Shealy's lunch.

Long

May 10, 2021, 12:05 PM

I rebuilt my back deck with my dad this weekend. It took much longer than I originally intended and we were about one battery powered drill too short all weekend. We tried to utilize the old school corded drills that my dad and I both have from the 60's, but they weren't enough juice to get 3" screws through the decking boards.

My dad tore out the old deck Tuesday - Thursday. We started the rebuild on Friday and got the walking surface put down Friday. Saturday, we gave our best effort in putting together the railings with aluminum balusters, but they proved nearly impossible without some extreme patience and good luck. Dad had to leave Saturday night because my mom rolled her ankle and broke it so he needed to be home. Sunday, I built the stairs, put a torx head under my left hand thumb nail, and jammed my right hand pinky finger between two boards at Home Depot.

Witnessed a car on car hit and run last night when waiting on to-go food. This mom and dad were arguing at the table in front of their kids. Wife stormed off to grab the car with one of her kids. Hit a Hyundai during her attempt to park in a spot. She walked over to her husband and told him what she had done and they whispered for a few seconds, presumably about her being too drunk to have been driving. They knew that I saw it, so the husband sent the wife inside to tell a manager/find the person who's car she hit. I didn't want to keep standing there, so I sat in my car.

As soon as I got in the car, I think the husband called the wife and said to bounce out of fear of a DUI. Out of my own fear of their current inebriation state, their current relationship state, and the fact their kids were in the car with them, I didn't want to intervene and cause a scene in the parking lot. Without making it completely obvious I was attempting to snap a picture of their plate, I would not have been able to get it without the husband noticing and more than likely getting in a verbal/physical altercation. I got the manager of the restaurant and showed him what had happened after they left. He was able to find the owner of the car that had been hit, and that person called me about an hour later. He was quite mad, very bad at communicating, and seemed to think I was the person responsible for hitting his car rather than the person that was willing to give a statement to police/insurance. After I had told him the story of what happened, he said, "thanks, I get the point" and hung up.
