Last tweet of night: I'm doing the math in my head. The "extra benefits" Shapiro provided? They added up to what, like maybe $40K? Really?
This is contrary to the popular news stories about Buying cars and giving millions of dollars. Keep in mind the guy has a vendetta against Miami and can't be trusted. After all he did take about 930 mil in the ponzi scheme.

Is the NCAA up-set about the amount or about how long it went on (10 years), the number of players (72), the number of coaches (3),the number of sports involved or that Miami let it go on so long and did nothing to stop it. Was Miami on NCAA probation any time during these 10 years

problem but i posted this to inform everyone that the outlandish things reported were not found to be true.
also not all athletes and coaches were football but most of them were.
Also keep in mind that UM told the NCAA of all this in the first place.
but yes the final penalty the receive will be because of the university officials (coaches) secrecy.

On the surface, he's a flashy financier who loves Miami football and is willing to pay to get close to it. I'm sure there are quite a few of these guys around most programs in the country and the administrations are happy to have them. The thing is that quite a few of them will be willing to cross a few imaginary lines to help out their favorite program. It's up to the coaches and administration to keep a leash on them or keep them away. Part of the price of taking their money is taking responsibility for their actions. That's where Miami was asleep at the switch or indifferent.

Did you read the yahoo! article from a year or so ago that detailed all of the issues? The UM situation goes WAY beyond 40k.

I think that's the point of this post. The initial stories had some outlandish claims. What appears to be true, or at least provable per the OP is that he gave $40K in impermissible benefits. I haven't seen that proven, but that's what the tweet indicated.
