Ooofnet - oklahoma news

These are from an article in the Athletic ___________________________ On Tuesday night, controversy swirled when it was revealed that cornerbacks coach Roy Manning — still listed on the official OU website as an assistant coach — was recruiting on behalf of USC despite making in-home visits with Stoops earlier in the day. Several current OU defensive backs tweeted about it and even the OU compliance office seemed to respond to the Manning situation. “This is a #### show,” one source inside the program told The Athletic on Tuesday night.
___________________________
(Riley as Oklahoma HC) had a commitment from 2023 five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson, although since the USC news broke, Nelson — from Los Alamitos, Calif. — has flipped to the Trojans. Nelson’s high school teammate — five-star 2023 receiver Makai Lemon — decommitted from Oklahoma.
___________________________
A new coach could salvage the class and begin to build back the 2023 class, which was ranked No. 1 before the Riley news broke but now only has three commits left. ___________________________
Rattler announced that he would enter the transfer portal the day after Riley left for USC. Wide receivers Jadon Haselwood and Theo Wease — both former five-stars — as well as tight end Austin Stogner have since entered the portal, too.
The Sooners are bleeding both players and recruits right now. Nothing would have a better chance of stopping the bleeding than keeping (Caleb) Williams. ___________________________
Stoops defiantly stood behind the podium and said his message to recruits, players, parents and fans was simple: Oklahoma football is about more than one man.
“Give it a little bit of time and you’re going to see, this is just a little bump in the road,” Stoops said. “There’s not one guy, one person in the history of this program that’s bigger than the program — Coach (Barry) Switzer, myself, or Lincoln Riley.”

Oklahoma is getting seriously damaged.

They should have pulled the trigger on someone by now and done damage control. It's like they called Tennessee and asked for advice on how to handle a coaching search.

Don't think he would go though, but he's made chicken salad out of a chicken sh*t roster with Tennessee's offense, would love to get a guy with those playcalling skills in Clemson

choices over Venables...and I don't say that from the perspective of being selfish or the ensuing melt-downs in Columbia and Knoxville that would lend to my own personal entertainment. The bottom line is that both have some head coach experience in the SEC, where OK is headed. Both have an existing staff to draw from, so one would surmise that either could make for a much quicker transition. The damage being done at Oklahoma right now is severely impacting their entry into the SEC as a competitive program. Saving current players and rebuilding future classes should be a priority right now or they show up as a conference newbie far weaker than they thought they would be going in. That said, I'd get a robust giggle if both Oklahoma and Texas struggled and failed in the SEC.

and OK fans and old players may love him, but he's not going to be a hire that is going to excite those offensive stars they have recruited under Riley.
A roster/recruiting hit and coaching turnover a year or two before they join the SEC is going to go badly. Especially with a rookie head coach.
Heupel, L Kiffin or even Beamer would be better suited for it I think.

Kiffin would excel there.

I'm not sure Kiffin is interested in them though. His name sure hasn't exactly been swirling around the rumor mill in connection to them either...although I think we've seen in the last couple of weeks that means NOTHING.

Almost as if they ran him off all passive aggressive like but were counting on him being busy until January.

to a complete rebuild after losing one guy.
Whoever decided that OK should enter the SEC should be fired.
That was the dumbest decision in the history of dumb decisions and the direct reason they are in the situation they are in.
Who would want that job now? No recruiting class anymore. Athletes leaving left and right. Coaches leaving. By the time you stop the sinking ship, congrats, you now get to play Bama every year in hopes of sniffing a conference championship.
