Serious post on DJ and our WRs and OL

Jan 1, 2023, 6:51 PM

Other than playing non power 5 teams this year, which team didn't have better players at each of those 3 position groups? Not necessarily a flame on anyone, just honestly we were worse than our opponent most Saturdays in those spots.

Clemson has not recruited OL top talent consistently for many years and seemingly is rarely in the discussion for 5* recruits that seem to be stockpiled at Bama, UGA, OSU, TX et al. How many OL have made it to NFL and lasted? - Tyler Shatley? Carmen and Hyatt were 5* kids but did not stick as starters.

Hard to tell about WR talent w DJ as QB - his ineptness caused a lot of frustration from WRs who never got the opportunity to catch a pass. Randall and Williams may pan out but we have brought in a bunch of WR that never panned out Ajou, Collins, EJ,

We need to bring in high level recruiting coordinators who can bring in BOTH HS kids and the portal…..and then provide them with the NIL $ needed to reel them in. Withoout this we fall back to middle of the pack as a 7-5 or 6-6 team.

DJ was blamed for the failure of this offense. We lack play makers at wide out, a credible play caller and studs on the o line. We have been on a slow decline since 2018. Its time to revamp our offensive recruiting philosophy and go after some serious speed instead of 50/50 jump ball specialist. We need a real QB coach, offensive coordinator, o line coach and receiver coach, that can recruit high level talent. I don't think our coach is will adapt and get serious about the portal bid for recruits.

We have a couple decent WRs. No one is spectacular. We have but one star on teh offense.

They have recruited the same type/built wr the past 6 years. 6'2+ and jump ball specialist. Would love to see more speed guys that run smooth routes like Sammy Watkins or non clemson players like Olave, Jeudy, or Devonta Smith.

Five star WRs require a bidding war. We aren’t going to pay that kind of money. We’re never going to have a large number of five star wide receivers like Ohio State does. We will focus on the 4 star WRs we can get.

I’m not sure. But if we did have less talent at those positions and we’re still able to win 11 games, then our coaching must be AWESOME with such inferior talent.

Our WRs were and are much better than they seemed with DJU. They will be fine. It would be nice to have a superstar like Nuke or Sammy, but the reality is those guys will cost you $2 million NIL per year going forward. The OL stinks and has never been great under Dabo, but it is still above average for the ACC. It is definitely one of the weakest position groups in the program though.
