Seeing Clemson fans/alums bashing other schools' academics

and calling them "backwaters" is just another reason why we need to get out of the ACC. Seriously, the snobbery has started to rub off on us. Clemson is a great school and I'm proud of my degree, but seeing Clemson people bashing the academics and location of the WVUs, Oklahoma States, and others is just absurd and nauseating.

We are not calling them backwaters because we are snobs, we

are calling them backwaters because they are backwaters.
I am a tenth generation South Carolinian (exiled in Western NC) and 3rd generation Clemson grad. I have many problems with the ACC and I definitely would like more TV $, but I have been to Lubbock and Stillwater and I spent a month in Kansas one weekend. They are godawful places.

What's rather ironic about a lot of this backwater talk,

is that a lot of people would think of Clemson as a backwater. I love the school and the area but the reality is that a large amount of people from around the country would probably not exactly mistake Clemson for a booming metropolitan area. Which is fine with me, like I said I love the place and would prefer it not to grow TOO much, anyway.

Yes they are awful places to visit. Stillwater is not a great place to visit either and to be honest Norman is not on my top one hundred cities to visit. We have a lot of people wanting something and not really knowing why they want it.

PA area. I will tell you that WVU is really bad. Do they have bright people that go there? Of course. But all of the people I knew that couldn't get accepted at Pitt or Penn State, or even Ohio State, got into WVU. My neighbor was a really below average student in High School. when he couldn't get into any of the Pa schools, he applied to WVU and was immediately accepted. He studied Bus. and Marketing and made straight As the whole 4 years he was there...not kidding.

Actually, Coots only rank lower in one system of ranking, and it was one in which Clemson admitted to ranking themselves higher than Harvard, Yale, MIT, etc in order to boost their public perception (US News). Of the ranking systems that use alumni success, faculty reputation, faculty grants, placement into grad schools, and individual program rankings (ARWU, QS, Times, and Forbes), they rank higher than Clemson. Arwu has Carolina between 200-300, and Clemson at 300-400. Forbes has Carolina at 143, Clemson at 338. QS has Carolina at 401-450, Clemson at 601+ (only the AG program was able to qualify as a top 100 program world wide). Times has Carolina at 201-250, Clemson at 551-600) In addition, Carolina has the #1 honors college in the United States, as a recent ranking put them ahead of UVA and Schreyer's. They have also sent nearly twice as many students to in-state law and medical schools, and about 1.6 times as many students to out of state graduate schools as Clemson, despite having an undergraduate total that is only 1.4 times greater than Clemson. Essentially, Carolina sends 1.84 students to graduate (including medical and law) school for every 1 student Clemson sends, even though Carolina has only 1.4 students to every 1 Clemson student.

I believe Clemson ranks near the bottom of the ACC schools in academics, but would be near the top in the BIGXII, thereby transforming from redneck to snob.
Win win.
