Seeding is overrated

Being 14, 15, 16 actually gives you a bit of an edge.
Net, if you're the best, you prove it by winning 6 straight games. Only one team does that against whoever they play.

champions.. not "The BEST" team.
no1 will deny the NY Giants were the 2008 super bowl champs but you will be hard pressed to find any 1 who would claim the NY Giants were the "BEST" team in 2008...

There is no such thing as a "best team". There are only champion teams.

Absolutely. There can only be 1 winner and whether people think they are not "the best" is immaterial. Only 1 team cuts down the nets and does snow angels in the confetti. Same in football, baseball, soccer and all sports.

Seeding is historically accurate, and higher seeds win more often than lower seeds in every first round matchup with exactly the progression you'd expect to see:
Win % by seed - overall (first round)
#1 - 78.8% (99.3%) #2 - 70.0% (93.8%) #3 - 64.0% (84.7%) #4 - 59.0% (79.0%) #5 - 52.9% (67.1%) #6 - 53.2% (63.4%) #7 - 47.3% (60.1%) #8 - 43.0% (51.8%) #9 - 36.8% #10 - 38.5% #11 - 37.4% #12 - 32.2% #13 - 20.0% #14 - 14.3% #15 - 7.1% #16 - 0.7%

laettner played for 3-4 years before the draft. so the teams like Duke and UNC still have blue chip players but they're green and only have a year to get it out of them. So now you got a senior laden 15 seed from the mid american conference playing a bunch of highly athletic but experience-less players in a tournament where experience wins out in a close game. ITs more fun to watch b/c there is no telling who will win but in some ways its a shame we don't have those heavy weight slug fests anymore. Those are long long gone. Same will eventually happen to college football. When money starts talking then thats when the big boys start walking.

I get what you are saying, but it's being blown out of proportion. Since 2000, every single March Madness winner has been a 3-seed or better except for 1 - Connecticut (7) in 2014 (against 8th seeded Kentucky). In fact, you can go back another 10 years to 1990 and there's only one more - Arizona (4) in 1997.
I do think we see more upsets now than before in the early rounds. But, big picture, the higher seeds are still dominating the tournament overall.

The last 4 teams to win were all #1 seeds. Going back one more year to get someone that wasn't a #1 seed? Villanova in 2016 who was a #2 seed that got robbed of a #1 by a less deserving Oregon team. 1 seeds are more dominant than ever, they're just not all "one and done" type teams.

What 14 through 16 seed has ever won it?
I'll hang up and listen.
If seeding is overrated, why hasn't a 16 seed ever won a national title??????
Kind of a post you might consider deleting.
