SEC Athletes

Dec 9, 2015, 7:35 PM

Was listening to ESPN 730am out of Charlotte, NC this afternoon and overheard an interview with Jesse Palmer where he was being asked about different college football topics. The topic turned to the hirings of Fuentes at Va. Tech, Richt at Miami, etc. and which hire did he consider the better one. Palmer said that he believes Fuentes at Va. Tech is a homerun and that Fuentes can win immediately. Then, Palmer said that Fuentes is a guy who can recruit SEC-type athletes to Va. Tech and improve the program. So ACC-type athletes aren't good enough?? Opinions??

Why the #### would he want sec athletes when the ACC has cut their butt 7-1 the last 2 years, won a natty and major bowls;and the sec hasn't won #### the last two years. ACC has 3 top ten teams including #1 and sec has one top ten team. Please explain ### Palmer.

ACC is 8-7 vs SEC, not 7-1.

I'm not disputing what you're saying though. I think the ACC is 7-1 during rivalry week and 8-7 overall in the past two years.

I think in recent years, the quality of recruits at VT has, in fact, slipped. So I think he is arguing that VT can now go after higher caliber recruits. Unfortunately when people say "SEC recruits", "SEC speed", or "SEC anything" they are typically only referring to Alabama and maybe LSU to a lesser extent. I think many would agree that Kentucky, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn, and Missouri aren't getting "SEC recruits" either and that's half the conference.
