School out today...
Dec 3, 2021, 8:04 AM
|
|
this is going to be really insensitive, but I am not going to apologize. Start rant....
Why in the heck is my elementary son out of school today? Yes, there was a school shooting two counties and basically an hour away. Am I sad for the families, yes. Should their schools be out for a couple of days, sure, but my son's school sits more than an hour away and they decide, last minute, that its appropriate to take a day of "reflection". Now I have to take the day off in the middle of the busiest season for work.
Teachers and Administrators can be some of the most loathsome people on the planet. And yes, my sister is a Principal and I tell her the same thing. They are like a Mercury engine on a boat, they only work when they want to.

And yep, there's a ton of waste in school districts.
But there's also a lot of underfunding across the board as well in some areas, and a lot of what people demand will cost more. For example, I see a lot of people demand creating and teaching a personal finance class (which actually already exists in SC curriculum). The problem is that if you don't have enough manpower to teach this class in lieu of the core subjects, it's not happening.
EDIT: Also, did Manac slow play us into a P&R topic?

I'd love to see that syllabus. How are they going to teach about something they don't have? Ask their inlaws?

a really nice new high school, but the old one was too small and getting run down. I serves 2 grades now instead of 3. Otherwise, there really doesn't seem to be alot of obvious waste at the school level. They are very underfunded.
Other gov't agencies, yeah, I agree with you.

who made that decision.
Like any organization, you usually have some extremely incompetent people high up the ladder who have never been in a classroom before making these kinds of decisions.
What I have seen in education is the worse you are at your job, the higher up the ladder you move.

The Peter Principle (or principal)... get it?
Dec 3, 2021, 11:24 AM
|
|
The Peter Principle is thus based on the paradoxical idea that competent employees will continue to be promoted, but at some point will be promoted into positions for which they are incompetent, and they will then remain in those positions because of the fact that they do not demonstrate any further competence that would get them recognized for additional promotion.

Perhaps your local school administrators are broadening your kid's education by promoting navel gazing. Far Eastern studies have long been neglected in this country. I feel your pain.

Pretty simple
Dec 3, 2021, 8:49 AM
|
|
Well, first, not sure what teachers or administrators have to do with it. That's always a district official call. But, you know, I guess attack the teachers. For some reason. Sure. They somehow shut the school down because they're lazy.
Second, I'm not saying they should close the school, but if it was open and a shooting did occur in the wake of these others, parents would be lining up to sue. You probably would, too.
These decisions are always made to avoid lawsuits.

Dec 3, 2021, 8:59 AM
[ in reply to Administrators are the district or county officials ] |

In education, it's talking about principals and asst. principals in the school. Now, if you want to specify district officials to narrow down your complaint, do that. I highly doubt those people made this decision because they're lazy. It probably created more work for them.
You're crying and bitching about teachers due to your inconvenience today when teachers had 0.0 say or decision in what happened.
