scary thin on d

Aug 21, 2012, 9:59 PM

after reading the venables article on our defense and how he had so few players to count on to play, as a tiger fan i am hoping first, no one gets hurt and second we are strong with our first 16 players. i am very concerned with not having any more depth than that. i hope he is blowing smoke at auburn, but i believe he is a straight shooter who tells it like it is. i like optimistic people, but i really respect people who dont sugarcoat things. just tell me straight and not that it is raining why you p on my leg.

First is, I think this coaching staff is very professional and is downplaying (as they should). Second, it can't get any worse than last year. Steele was a lot like West...saying everything was great and packing his bags at the end of the season. Venables is here for the long haul.

Screw Calford.

if you listen to everything he says

He was worried about backups at cb but we have guys who can cover that like brewer. He has 5 dts 4 des, a million lbs, a few s. Now Jenkins injury hurts cause he can play cb and nickel. But I think we are ok, I'm more worried about OL. Not buying all the rosey talk yet.

I think it has a lot to do with how our offensive line has

been whipping their butts in practice. Either it says that our Oline is a lot better than we might think, or our defensive line really just isn't that good.

You have to remember also that Venables is used to the talent of defensive lineman that Oklahoma has put out over the last few years.

Yet you hate Spurrier (Straight shooter) and love Dabo (Sunshine Pumper) .......

A bigger issue....

is conditioning for those 11-15 guys. If the offense can't keep the D off the field, those guys on D could end up gassed at the end of the game. It's what Oregon does to folks (don't let the other team sub, and wear out the defensive guys....)

That's what we do, genius. In games we won last year, we

averaged over 85 plays per game. In games we lost, we averaged about 65 plays. And that low figure, oddly enough, is the number of plays USCjr. averaged last year.

It doesn't matter what OUR offense does....

Aug 22, 2012, 10:24 AM

it matters what the OTHER TEAM's offense does. So what if we run 85 plays that take 5 seconds vs 65 plays that take 10 seconds.

But point taken that if Clemson's offense is clicking, it helps the D.
