I always thought Charlie Strong could have been a good coach. But he got roped into the Texas job and unfortunately that was the worst place he could have gone.

USF. He was THE WORST.
Saying he had the personality of a doorknob was speaking unjustifiably poor of all doorknobs ever made.
Take Dabo - amp him up times 3 . . . . Charlie was the absolute antithesis of that Dabo times 3 guy.
Seriously.

Maybe he is an excellent coach just not a head coach. No matter as he has made more $ than most folks.

Tommy or Ken were not close. Both ran a clean program, with some decent wins. Underachievers, yes.
Hootie Ingram (12-21 .364) and Red Parker (17-25-2 .409) would be bottom of our list back to the 1920's. Charlie Pell should get an un-honorable mention even though he executed with Red's players.
I don't even want to put Red Parker in the same category as Hootie. Hootie destroyed our program after Frank Howard retired, enough said. Handing over a train wreck to Red Parker. Red turned the program around, and put together an outstanding group of players, that we all knew would be good (Steve Fuller, Dwight Clark, Jerry Butler..) the next year, but Red got fired one season before he could get them all on the field to win. Charlie Pell came to town and took Red's recruits and had two outstanding seasons, then left for Florida and got us put on probation (then Florida).
On the other hand, Pell also left us with Danny Ford and a solid program. Tommy Bowden hired Dabo, and RESIGNED in the middle of the season so Dabo could be our interim coach. Bowden was just not a game day coach (like his Dad?), but he ran a good program and did not leave Dabo with a train wreck.

I give Tommy Bowden a lot of credit for where we are today. He was/is a good man. He changed the culture here.

To be fair to USuCk, it is a program that even Natty guys like Holtz and Spurrier could not turn. It is hopeless, in the darkest pit ever. Even the President just bailed.
