Savanah day trip

Jun 9, 2021, 12:26 PM

We havent been there in years but will probably do a day trip when we go to Charleston next month. Any suggested places to see or good resturaunts there we should hit. Just the two of us. No kids. Thanks

I wish I could recommend restaurants, but it has been

a while since I have been there. I could ask my aunt and uncle who live there, but they are not culinary experts. They would probably recommend Olive Garden.

The last time I was there, I enjoyed strolling along River Street and the parks nearby. I also enjoyed Tybee Island lighthouse. We climbed to the top and went out on the gallery.

It's a few blocks outside the Historic District, but Crystal Beer Parlor is a really good restaurant. If you go at night, I'd suggest driving or taking an Uber. Get outside the Historic District and it starts getting sketchy, quickly.

the crystal beer parlor is great. another good lunch is mrs. wilks, but get there early, they back up quick.

I've been in Savannah since Clemson graduation in 1984 and married to a UGA alum meeting planner for most of those years, so glad to answer. For a nice dinner with the Mrs. and a tasty Old Fashioned, The Olde Pink House or sister restaurant Garibaldi's are 1st class. Vic's on the River is also a good choice. Make reservations.

New JW Marriott and lots of new shops on west side of River St (Riverside District) -- see attached. Wife might enjoy a few shops in Design District (about 1 mile south from River Street) including One Fish Two Fish.

We did.

Ellis square is nice for music, outdoor bar and restaurant scene. If you get hot, run through the fountains with all the kids. Forsyth park is fun for pictures, strolling and people watching. Food: B-Mathews is great, Green truck pub, Crystal Beer and Goose feathers. All are good. Stroll down River Street with a drink in hand, but make hast before dark. It’s a war zone….

the green truck pub must be owned by liberals, they still haven't opened their dining room back up even though most over the rest of the city has defied the mayor's orders and long ago opened with limited seating.

Tybee island is nice to visit and walk the pier or beach. Good seafood around there.

Visit Tybee; great seafood and I live in Murrells Inlet

Seafood capital of the world!
Savannah is a blast if you stay on the river, and do the historic stuff in the day

We did a weekend in Savannah a couple of years ago...

Jun 9, 2021, 2:14 PM

Stayed on River Street. Old Town Trolley Tour was informative and only took 90 minutes for the loop. As far as food we ate at Vics on the Water and it was great. Also ate at The Pirate's House which was also good plus it's haunted. For breakfast Mathew's Eatery was on point.

Have a great time!

Check out the trailer park for breakfast or lunch. Very fun and great. Then hit the Service Brewing Co. great beer run by a couple of vets
Enjoy

Service is a good brew. They do a cool tour there too, but I think you have to make a reservation.

Savannah Seafood Shack

will remind you of a fast food joint but the best shrimp taco's anywhere. Then a couple of doors down Leopold's Ice Cream for a lick, been there forever.

Leopold’s is a good suggestion. Old fashion ice cream shop with soda jerk. Good stuff! Eat it fast cuz the Savannah humidity will first!

Do they still have the sea shell tours in and around Tybee. Or from Tybee. Not interested in dinner cruise or anything but wouldn't mind a boat tour to see the river. Our church ladies were thinking about a bus tour from cootlumbia but it's a day trip. Told my buddy I'd rather go alone and spend a couple nights, lay on beach etc.

Any festivals coming up anytime soon. We love to go down to Georgetown and dance at the waterfront to beach music.

Lot to ask, but appreciate the advice already given. Good stuff. My friend likes the haunted tour stuff.

Beaufort is closer to Charleston and a great place for a day trip. Take 17 instead of the interstate and enjoy the Americana.
