Sammy and his sentence.....

Jul 9, 2012, 11:50 AM

So I see a lot of guys on here talking about Sammy and how he shouldn't even miss a game as the incident happened too far back and other schools don't punish a player until there is a 2nd occurrence. Whats funny is a lot of the guys saying this are the same guys over the past couple of years that constantly talk about other schools like USuCk don't punish their players and let them off the hook for anything.

So if Sammy gets off the hook, wouldn't Clemson nation be thrown into the same case with Sammy's circumstance?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Sammy play every game....but I just thought it was amusing to see the pot calling the kettle black.

Your thoughts?

And don't fly off the handle calling me a coot. I'll be happy to leave an imprint on your forehead with my CU class of '01 ring. :)

If he had gotten in trouble more than once, I would agree. But Sammy is a good kid and has passed Dabo's wishes after the incident with flying colors. He should miss no more than half of the opening game.

but Bellamy was supposedly doing everything asked of him right up until he missed out academically. I'm trust CDS to handle this in his own good time

And??? Bellamy wasn't dismissed. He was ineligible to play this season so he transferred.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Coot! Just kidding.

Jul 9, 2012, 12:20 PM

I think he has done ALOT to mitigate his punishment. He admitted what he did, he apologized, then he quietly went to work making restitution. (Did anyone else notice that it seems like EVERY recruit that came through this summer talked about hanging out with Sammy?) My point is he is doing everything he can to fix it, including making good grades. This is an 18 year old that should get his one mulligan in my opinion.

LOL: making good grades, You're supposed to make good grades

Jul 9, 2012, 12:27 PM

His punishment should be more than just sitting out half of a game. Heck, even first time offenders who get off with PTI have to work harder than that to fulfill their sentence terms

expert on the PTI are you champ? listen up sport..

Jul 9, 2012, 8:07 PM [ in reply to LOL: making good grades, You're supposed to make good grades ]

Sammy could have done PTI or some other plea, but the guy KNEW that others (like you) would say that he was trying to use/abuse the system instead of taking his medicine. If you bothered to read my post at all, you would note that my point was that HE HAS WORKED HARD since the arrest, at everything.

Re: Sammy and his sentence.....

Jul 9, 2012, 12:38 PM

It's one of the benefits of this happening in the offseason. Even though I don't think anybody should get in trouble for smoking some pot, if this happened during the season he would definitely have to miss a game, possibly two...

However since this happened in the offseason, he has an opportunity to patch things up before anything comes up. In my opinion, given the situation (first time offense, time to prove he's sorry for doing it), he shouldn't be suspended at all. And that goes for any player, whether his name is Watkins, Bellamy, Crowell, or Lattimore.

We know what Watkins, Bellamy, and Crowell did wrong.
What exactly has Lattimore done wrong? Did I miss something?

he was just saying that it doesn't matter who did it. latty hasn't done anything wrong, except going to usuc.

I'm for Sammy being suspended for the 4th quarter of Auburn

Jul 9, 2012, 12:44 PM

after we have a 42-20 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Re: Sammy and his sentence.....

Jul 9, 2012, 12:46 PM

I agree with you, and think a lot of people are kidding themselves. If this was Darrell Smith, no one would bat an eye at a 4 game suspension. It wouldn't matter if he spent the summer vaccinating children in a third world ghetto. I also think if Auburn were the third game, following the patsies, most everyone would be ok if Sammy was suspended a game or two.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's a pretty big difference between 5 strikes and 2 ...

Jul 9, 2012, 12:47 PM

No?

With that said, Sammie should be forced to sit out, even if it's only for a half.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correction: 1 strike.***

Sentence?

Jul 9, 2012, 12:59 PM

He won't have a sentence. At the most, he'll get PTI and no arrest record.

What punishment he gets as a Clemson football player is between Dabo and Sammy.

I'll wait and see what he gets.

I have no problem waiting until after the punishment to find out what it is.

Why tell our opponents in advance if he's playing or not? All that accomplishes is the team loses an advantage of our opponents having to prepare for one of the best players in the country.

THAT is an excellent point.

Jul 9, 2012, 8:10 PM

Why let auburn know what we are doing? Let them practice the Jet Sweep 25 times a day just in case.

Re: Sammy and his sentence.....

Jul 9, 2012, 1:50 PM

I'm sure he learned his lesson....I just hope he realizes how much he has at stake, including a lot of kids that look up to him. I mean if you absolutely can't help it and have to smoke a joint...at least do it in your bathroom or something...not riding around in public.

Hopefully he will make smart decisions going forward...especially being under the media microscope. Sitting out half a game would suffice.

Anyone know what all he has had to do thus far regarding his "punishment"? I hear a lot about sitting out games, but haven't heard much about anything he's had to do in the off season other than publicly apologize.

I know he's a good kid.

"It's OK Sammy, you're a Goonie and Goonies always make mistakes..... just don't make any more."

Re: Sammy and his sentence.....

I think he should miss the first game. I hate that, but if Lattimore had done this and not missed the first game we would be screaming. he sits out the first game. anything less is not up to Clemson standards.

Well turn your fist towards you and leave an imprint of that ring on your own head.Dabo will suspend this kid for a couple of games but he ought to do like Usuc and suspend him games like the furman game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There is other punishment other than playing time.

Jul 9, 2012, 8:17 PM

Stadium steps, running after practice, see what judge says about his handling of PTI requirements, and the often used "handling his discipline internally".

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also, our 1st time offense penalty doesn't call for loss of

Once at Geer Baptist church in Easley...

Jul 9, 2012, 9:13 PM

forgive me if I spelled the church's name wrong, I sat under the ministry of one of the three finest Pastors of my experience.

Pastor Luther Price began a sermon one Sunday morning by saying, "I read in the Easley Progress last week that a woman was taken to Easley Baptist Medical Center to have a rumor removed." He continued to say, "Of course, that was a typo, if it were only that simple that an opperation could remove rumors."

My point is that whatever Clemson does or does not do is irrelevant to the slander we are bound to get from the state paper and other media sources. Rumors can't be removed like an appendix or a wart.

We should, therefore, do what is in the best interest of Clemson University, Clemson's football team and Clemson's players and students. Dabo knows this. I trust his judgement however he decides to make sure Sammy never becomes complacent again with his conduct. Whatever his decision I'm all in. If it turns out that Sammy spends a few more years here and does not repeat the infractions then Dabo's action will, then and only then, be vindicated with or without rumors and coots.

A reasonable and mature person would consider that fact.

My opinion on this is just as irrelevant as yours, the media and especially the coots.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I truely believe he has learned a lot....

Jul 9, 2012, 9:28 PM

from this incident. As my father used to tell me growing up "all your decision/actions create a cause and effect situation". Some more than others.
