Ryan Day giving up play calling duties

Jan 3, 2023, 9:27 AM

to become more of a CEO. Apparently promoting Brian Hartline to OC, who was his Jeff Scott. Never understood HC wanting to call plays.

If you want to call plays, be an OC. Otherwise, trust your staff or upgrade your staff. It is the epitome of micromanager. I say this from my perspective as a Director who has 100 people reporting to me.

I agree. Having input is fine. Helping with the game plan is fine. Player management is fine. Actually calling every play is ridiculous.

He's pretty good at it though. i'm no Ryan Day fan but his

scheme is everything I wish we would implement here at Clemson. OSU WR's are always wide open and their offense always puts up massive numbers without flashy gimmicks. At the same time it provides alot of incentive for high profile WR's and QBs to come there.

I assume its just alot of work and he's probably driving himself crazy trying to juggle offense and whole team/managment duties.

Their WRs are much better than ours right now

That also helps them get open.

which also falls on the coaches***

He is pretty dang good at it though...

He is an expert at using your defensive game plan against you.

I'll bet he will try and instill his play calling philosophy into Hartline. I agree though, he is a good play caller. Spurrier, I thought was an excellent HC play caller. Jimbo, Dan Mullen, Sark, not so much.

Dabo should do the same, IMO.

Screw Calford.

so they were 1 point away from the national title game......

Jan 3, 2023, 10:19 AM

and he's willing to assess a problem and make a change.............what a novel idea

would be nice to see Dabo take that approach.

10+ wins............3 losses....ACC championship trophy.........all's well in Dabo land........full steam ahead.

So you're content with winning the weaksauce ACC but getting beaten in our bowl games, missing the playoffs, and losing to our instate "rival"? Is that what you call "Best is the Standard"?

Screw Calford.

turn your meter on......

Jan 3, 2023, 10:30 AM

and look at my recent post history

I'm nowhere close to "content" with that...............just echoing the the pumpers mentality to show how absurd it sounds.

Exactly right! Instead we get told how much a 11 win season is so amazing.

Its worked pretty well for him....

Jan 3, 2023, 10:31 AM

but its a good move to help slingshot Hartline's career.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Allow him to focus more on Defense

Jan 3, 2023, 1:17 PM

and stop obsessing over Clemson so dang much.

I have doubts this is a good move for Ohio State

I think maybe Hartline was going to walk if he wasn't given play calling duties. He probably wants to become a HC in the next 2 years and wants this as the next step.

Hartline is a Hall of Fame level recruiter of WRs, but I have doubts he can calls play better than Day.

Since I don't like Ohio State, this makes me happy.
