"The 80s are calling, they want their foreign policy back."

Oct 14, 2021, 1:23 PM

Oh man. Oh, I will never forget that zinger. Obama, you wit. Such an amazing combination of ignorance and arrogance summed up in one sentence.

Anywhoooo, putting the little partisan jab away...

Russia...at what point is it just called "war"?

The CIA believes they are attacking our diplomats with...uh..."energy beams"...

Microsoft says that Russia is the biggest Cyberattacker...

Intelligence reports are that they try to influence our elections...

Normally my frail brain wilts at the sight of a quozzel dissertation post, but I'd love to see him opine on Russia, as I know he's one to do. At what point is it effectively a war?

I sure hope are ridiculous circus of a federal government has its ducks in a row to be answering this fire with fire of its own.

It's been a war.

It's always been a war.

Putin was a KGB agent. In charge of recruiting assets to use to destabilize the West. It's what he knows, how he thinks, how he was trained. He's also a psychopath, who manipulates and feels neither real fear nor remorse. All he respects is pure strength. He calculates.

Joe, to his credit, hated Putin before anyone else did. Is he competent enough to stand up to him? I too am dubious.

Russia is no longer the USSR

A 1980s style policy of weapons overspending and containment wouldn't have worked in 2008 to stop Russia meddling in Ukraine or any of the other annoying problems Putin has created. That is what Hillary and McCain were both suggesting was the remedy. It would have made a lot of people rich though.

I don't understand what that has to do with the current

Putin does not attack you to your face unless he knows he can win. He roughed up Ukraine and stirred up a bunch of nationalistic sentiment a few years back taking Crimea - which is sort of the Russian/Ukrainian version of the Grand Strand, filled with tacky resorts - away from the Ukrainians. He plays that drum and wags the dog whenever he feels threatened at home.

Where he really goes after you is in your soft spots...and he's refined his approach a bunch from his humble beginnings funneling money to and recruiting for the Baader-Meinhof Gang (Red Army Faction) that tore up Germany with bombings and assassinations or the Red Brigades that kidnapped and killed former Prime Minister Aldo Moro in Italy.

He's taken the "Gremlins from the Kremlin" thing to the next level. The "Internet Research Agency" is about sowing social unrest on social media. They were really, really good at it...until they got famous and Facebook busted them publicly, so he restructured the unit and folded them into military intelligence. He's got armies of hackers - with code-names like "Fancy Bear" and "Cozy Bear" who did the famous DNC hack that got Donald impeached the first time and a lot of those guys apparently moonlight as the ransomware guys from REvil and DarkSide who are tearing up the West - including that Colonial Pipeline hack this past summer - for fun and profit. (Those ransomware hackers, incidentally, have software that will not attack any computer that has a CIS - "Confederation of Independent States" - registry. In other words, any computer belonging to a state that was once a part of the former Soviet Union. Their software also won't attack a Syrian computer. Politics.)

Like China, he deliberately pushes drugs abroad. His Russian mob-is state-sponsored, and ultimately answers to him. He fosters unrest. He sponsors crime when he knows it's going to attack you. And above all else, he attacks you just below the surface, fomenting public opinion against necessary institutions.

He murders people abroad, often with exotic poisons and radioactive isotopes like a James Bond villain.

He's indirectly responsible for hundreds of thousands of US deaths, and untold suffering and hardship here in the US...just off his anti-vax propaganda alone. It goes on and on with Putin.

That's a war. Another Cold War...but for him, it obviously never stopped.

That's what I'm talkin' about! Go Quoz!

Oct 15, 2021, 3:21 PM

So we know the enemy, but what are we doing? Obviously we wouldn't see all the activities, but when I read an article about US Diplomats suffering brain damage and all evidence points to a Russian energy weapon, I sure would like to see Biden (and I'm not trying to be partisan with this comment) do more than "make healthcare more accessible to the victims." We must know Putin's pain points and surely we have the ability to undermine him. What would that look like?

Use The Magnitsky Act to keep them in line

Oct 15, 2021, 11:35 PM

Limit all Russian nationals access to our markets and hard assets like real estate.

Then go after American collaborators like the NRA, that knowingly launders Putin’s money to influence our politics.

The article you linked doesn’t reference the NRA.***

You go after his money. His personal money.

The dude is a James Bond supervillain, and his game is World Domination. He may actually be the world's richest man - not Elon Musk, not Jeff Bezos. (He may have as much as $250 billion stashed away in Western banks, that he stole from his own people mostly by using Gazprom, Russia's big oil conglomerate, as his own personal piggy bank. He's The Oligarch of all the oligarchs, first and foremost...and what he took when the oligarchs divvied up old Communist Russia was the oil.)

This is his private mansion, built on the Russian peoples' dime:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8J2dW-QYQY

You wanna make Putin feel pain, you go after him personally. The guy is a crime boss and the Russian government is a living, breathing kleptocracy that's essentially built on organized crime. The veneer of a legitimate state is just that.

As much as Putin is a creature of the Cold War, Russia isn't the Soviet Union. It's a fallen state that turned towards organized crime as its new business model after Communism collapsed, and the veneer of a legitimate government it presents is just that: a veneer, like the gilded plating and marble facade of a mob bank.

Treat Putin like the crook he now is...and snuff his tendrils out. Hunt down his money. Russia's become a parasite criminal state.

That's how you make him feel pain.
