Grew up in LA and remember no matter where you went in town there was somebody playing a transistor radio listening to Vin call the game. That was before earplugs and no one minded, usually the radio owner was asked to turn it up so everyone could hear. Even in the stadium, the sound of Vin calling the game as we watched was everywhere. No one will ever come close to him doing what he did so well. He was way More than a skilled announcer however, he was a truly great gentleman, from an era when that counted for something.

Thanks for sharing, I am sure listening to him call games in LA was special. Even as Braves fan, I recognized how special he was.

He was the best I grew up listening to him call games . Was something I shared with my Dad and his passing has made me sad like I lost another thing that we shared.

Uncanny timing. We were just paying tribute to our own Jim Phillips and this happens. Vin Scully is one of the very select company
I spoke of when recognizing Jim. Another icon. He will be missed

My condolences for the passing of, IMHO, the greatest baseball announcer of all time. Los Angeles' gain was New York's loss. Had the Dodgers remained in NYC, I'm sure I would have listened to thousands of Dodger games on the radio over the past 60 years. I remember Vin doing NFL games on CBS with Hank Stram. It was fun. Hank would predict the play (usually correct) and Vin would make the perfect call. A precious part of baseball now gone. Our loss.
