Richt: I can't feel sorry for somebody who's doing exactly

what they want and gets paid millions to do it - no way. Having said that, expectations are absurd at schools like UGA. I know UGA hasn't won a conference title in a while, and I know his teams have choked and/or lost some big games they should have won, and there is the perception of underacheiving; I get that. I understand that big time college coaches live in a world of "what have you done for me lately?". The truth is, in spite of these perceived shortcomings, he's done quite a lot lately. Last year his team underperformed enough to finish #9 in the nation. Unranked the year before that, they finished #4 in the nation in 2012. Sports fans, that is performing at an extremely high level very recently.
I love where Dabo has taken our program, all the way to the top. I expect us to be a powerhouse for years to come, and I know high expectations are inevitable. However, I know also there will be frustrating losses and downswings in the program, and I hope we never get to the point at Clemson where the expectations of unreasonable donors and fans are driving the important decisions.

Similarly, the Les Miles situation was equally absurd.

Richt was Bowden 2.0. Did less with more. He's fine. He healthy ,rich and could be employed tomorrow if he so chooses.

That's a lousy comparison, as Richt acheived far, far more

than Bowden ever dreamed of. Bowden finished higher than 21 only once, when his team finished 14. Richt finished in the top 10 seven times, in the top 5 three times.

All Richt and Bowden have in common is that they are outspoken Christian coaches who are friends.

Imagine if we played in the coastal and consistently failed to make it to the conference championship.

Imagine if we finished in the top 10 over half of the time, and in the top 5 every five years.

Oooo rankings. Sounds like coot logic. It doesn't fill the trophy case and the boosters finally had enough of being good with consistent top 10 recruiting classes. The man has recently released his offensive and defensive coordinators. He is the common denominator.

and it sucked. It would have sucked a whole lot less if I had millions in the bank, knowing that I could make millions again.

early retirement benefits. I hear CMR is getting north of $4M as a buy out which is more than I'll make for the rest of my life. He'll be okay.

was forced to leave something he was good at doing because of some knucklehead boosters.
If you want to have a coversation about compensation inadequacies and misplaced priorities in our society where a football coach makes 4 million and a first responder / nurse / teacher / front line military / police etc make $20 per hour I'm all for it, but that is not the conversation here.

like that if I were him. In that regard, I hate it for him, and the insanity of it was the point of my post.
Even though the unfairness of it sucks right now, he's spent his career doing exactly what he loved, he's done it extremely well and with class and dignity, and he's been paid extremely well. Not many can say that. While I'm sure he's disappointed, I doubt he's feeling sorry for himself.

Couldn't agree more. He brought a great deal of badly needed integrity to that program as well. They still have their issues but it's light years from where it used to be. The level of integrity that Dabo has nurtured, on-field success aside, has made me very proud of our program.
