Reviews of calls. Regular speed or slo-mo.

Oct 22, 2012, 11:08 AM

There were many close calls reviewed in our Virginia Tech game.

I was wondering, when a review occurs is a reviewer looking at a slow motion film or at regular speed?

IT seems to me that it makes a big difference on how you interpret a call.

Also, in my Own opinion fewer calls are being reversed this year than in prior years.

I wonder the same. I assume they judge them both, but as you said, some plays look way different at regular speed than in slow mo. The Nuk incomplete pass in the endzone is one play that comes to mind.

They can look at it however they need to make the call

There were a couple of calls in the Miami/FSU and UGA/UK game that I felt for sure they would overturn. I bet Stanford has some feelings about replay officials as well.

It does seem like they are giving more leeway to the call on the field. In the past it seemed like they used the replay to make the call not recognizing what the term "indisputable visual evidence" meant. Now if it isn't 100% obvious, they leave it on the field.

I believe there is some degree of them not wanting to show up the ref's. Also, some calls seem to be the result of going overboard with trying to protect players from injury, i.e. the call saying that Logan Thomas was down, when he may not have been, yet.
