welp, looks like new tires will be my Christmas this year

Dec 20, 2021, 7:55 PM

it's time (65K on them, getting bald), was trying to squeeze 6 more months out of them, but found a screw in sidewall of one today. Plus another has had a nuisance slow leak for awhile.

Held my breath as I began the new Hyper-Inflation Era shopping process. But I found a fantastic deal at a place, so pulled the trigger. Discount Tire had them $65 less (each) than anywhere else (even WallyWorld). Almost looks like a misprint error. So I jumped on that #### quick. That's $250 saved on 4. I'm in, appointment set.

Discount Tire is great. I've never used them.

Dec 20, 2021, 8:42 PM

But they were briefly a client of mine, and on one of the calls, someone on their team referred to another department as a bunch of "jabronis" and I knew I was working with good people.

TU to OT for making me look up 'Jabronis". I'll be casting that one about in casual conversation from now on.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How do you know they are great???

$143/each at discount tire plus $70 instant savings.

Return those tires...

Dec 20, 2021, 8:48 PM

They are 'Good-for-a-year' for a reason. You wont get anywhere near 65k out of them. Maybe 30k if you're lucky.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

nah, this'll be my 3rd set of same tires on this Jeep

Dec 20, 2021, 9:15 PM

got 60K+ each on first two sets, wouldn't be buying again if displeased. Hopefully these will get me close to 200K on odometer and by then I'll be ready for another vehicle.

Get some of this crap out of my shop.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I got new air pressure sensors in the '12 4Runner. Only one

Dec 20, 2021, 10:06 PM

was bad, prolly, but bought 4. This year didn't specify air pressure per tire, just that one was low. I did have a slow leak in one wheel. Turned out there was nothing in the tire, just some corrosion on the aluminum rim where the tire mounted. Cleaned off corrosion, no leak. Just $90/per each for 4 new sensors. I'm running this vehicle up another 70K or more, until new design 4Runners are out for a year or two, then 2-3yr olds of the 2nd or 3rd yr are available used. Or whatever the best deal is at that time.

Pro tip

Dec 21, 2021, 6:24 AM

Discount will always take another 10% + off their quoted price.

Good to know!

Dec 21, 2021, 7:59 AM

I forgot to mention that I used them a couple of years ago for the truck. Good job, quick and courteous, lots of places across the country if you need tire repair or warranty replacement.

Update from discount tire

Dec 21, 2021, 9:13 AM

20 minutes in and they are about done. Had 5 guys teaming up on the tire installation. Very efficient jumping from car to car. I'll be out the door in less than 30 minutes.

First experience here. Will come back.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you get the tire warranty ?

Dec 21, 2021, 9:23 AM

I usually never get one, but son of finds a nail at least once a year. Bank on it.

Dec 21, 2021, 10:57 AM [ in reply to Did you get the tire warranty ? ]

Buy the tires from them, so unless you are wrecking the sidewalls with great frequency, it’s usually a losing bet.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nails always destroy the sidewall.

Dec 21, 2021, 11:30 AM

HTH.
