Debt Ceiling agreement

Here's how I see it playing out...
Kevin McCarthy, like John Boehner before him, has a deal with the President.
Freedom Caucus will get in a tizzy and protest and say they can't support it.
About 350 Congresscritters will vote to raise the debt ceiling for two years.
Freedom Caucus will move to remove McCarthy.
The wheels on the bus go round and round round and round, round and round, The wheels on the bus go round and round over the city streets.
(Like John Boehner before him, Kevin McCarthy is going to wonder why he wanted that job so bad.)

Nobody ever lost money betting on DC Republicans folding like gutless cowards once they get some bad press. Not exactly going out on a limb with this prediction.

On the other hand, lots of people would lose a whole lot of money for no good reason if our politicians were to put the US into default. That's the definition of political malpractice.
IMHO you know when you've gotten the right balance in a deal, when you hear the wingnuts on either flank screaming and yelling and pounding their desks. If the Progressives and Freedom Caucus are both unhappy - and it sounds like they're both going to be - it usually means Job Well Done.
I really, really hope our politicos don't tank the economy...you know, in the name of saving our economy.

They should pass lower budgets and then pay the bills.
You keep making the same dopey suggestion. Do you run up money on the credit card and then try to negotiate down what is due? Only a moron would do that, right? Right?

The limit is busted due to transitory inflation and raised interest rates

Speaking of budget; your daddy and friends crammed through the omnibus bill before the house changed hands; they could have raised the debt limit in THAT FKN BILL.
Why didn’t they? So idiots like yourselves can talk about pubs killing grandma.
I’m surrounded by GD IDIOTS.

Take ownership of the incompetence of you and yours, instead of being such a spineless wuss.
And maybe stop all of the childish whataboutism that tells everyone on here that you don't have the capacity of considering these issues like a mature adult.

given the history, I would hope McCarthy had that ironed out beforehand, to show some unity and be able to claim a win for pubs. We'll see - it's politics, after all.

Dems = political geniuses; RINOs = political Igor

Dear fchrissgrim,
This debt ceiling negation process once again puts on display the political mastery of Democrats over true conservatives (note that I did not use the term Republican here, although the Democrats are indeed also decades advanced in political machinations over the RINO Republicans).
The debt ceiling that Biden wants will be accomplished. On time. Why?
Our economy, which teeters ever closer to the brink of recession by even the liberalized definition of recession, would be pushed over those final few steps by (what would be a very short term default) the liquidity crisis from lack of funds for govt contractors, govt employees, medical service providers + pharma companies who don’t receive payments for services rendered / products provided, SS recipients who will miss out on the 4:00 PM senior specials at Golden Corral, etc, etc, etc.
The Democrat party’s media machine plugs in their prerecorded scripts to play on live tv / cable / web sites and the recession (which is already coming anyways) then gets pinned entirely on the Republicans.
(*). If (when) the debt ceiling increase goes into law, continuation of massive deficit spending injects enough (inflationary) liquidity into the economy to possibly stave off the formal onset of recession until maybe early Q4 2024.
Democrat profligate spenders win. RINOs feign outrage (privately happy). Conservatives fume (no one cares).
(*). The old people will not understand that this next wave of inflation was accelerated by the continued massive abuse by the treasury department’s printing of funds. The oldsters will blame the grocery stores for being greedy and Target / WalMart for being greedy. They will be politically passified by COLA (cost of living adjustments) to their SS checks; they won’t be smart enough to figure out that these COLA adjustments take place AFTER they had been paying higher-than-they-should inflated prices for the previous year.
Democrat profligate spenders win again. Old people lose, esp. those that saved money over the years (inflation eats up the spending power of their savings). RINOs don’t care. Conservatives fume again (no one cares).
Xxxxxxx.
The Democrats are ruining our country at a greater speed than the RINO Republicans could do. Dems will not pay the political penalty, though, because they have truly mastered the art of politics.
Congratulations.

We should elect a conservative businessman as POTUS to get all this straightened out, eh?

Who is this true CONSERVATIVE business man you speak of? 🤔
I know of one who calls himself a republican but is far from conservative.
