Remember when Danny got too big for his britches?

Wanted the improvements that coaches like Barry Switzer had. Ok, Nebraska, USC got away with it, but after the probation we got after 1981, Lennon and Robinson kicked Danny to the curb. Bad example, probably, but arrogance, hubris and mule headed ness are one deadly sin wrapped together.

Robinson was against firing Danny. And Danny's problems were off the field.

There was a huge row between Lennon and Dabo over Athletic facilities. You can sweet talk it, but there were near riots on campus when Danny was fired. As now, if someone has personal problems that prevent them from doing there job, step aside and solve them. We will understand. But don’t bring the ship on the shoals.

You are playing the wrong song and using a comparison that is not applicable. Danny Ford' problem was trying to counter to the school's policies and administration--plus the NCAA.
Dabo is trying to appease an irate fanbase that includes a lot of 'wanta-be coaches'. We hired Dabo to pilot the program and we need to let him do it. Very few on TigerNet have ever coached a HS or college football team.

It took two decades to recover from Danny's firing.

He knew what Clemson needed to stay competitive at the top tier, and he wasn't wrong. A lot of people now are critical of Danny looking back ("too big for his britches", "stubborn", etc.), but at the time, nobody in Clemson's fan base thought that. In fact, nobody outside of Max Lennon and Bobby Robinson and maybe their families thought that. There was almost unanimous outrage and stunned disbelief, which lingered for many, many years. The result was Ken Hatfield, Tommy West, and Tommy Bowden, and 20 years of wandering in the desert.
This is a very, very different situation. Fans were almost unanimously supportive of Danny Ford, before, during, and after his firing. There was no negative sentiment whatsoever amongst fans (nothing significant). We wewre coming off of a great year and the future looked bright. Today, there is a LOT of grumbling and negativity amongst the fan base. I have only heard of a few nutjobs calling for Dabo to be fired, so that's not really an issue, but people are openly frustrated and disappointed now, and I think understandably so.

I don't think Bobby Robinson thought that either!

The frustration now stems from the $#!7 show that we've seen on offense the last two years and doesn't seem to be getting any better. Dabo keeps saying we have to get better and improve but that doesn't appear to be happening, at least not on a consistent basis. The question is, it is coaching, recruiting, player development, or a combination of many things? Either way, can we stop with all of the coach speak and just get it fixed.

Actually, I think you are right. It was not his doing.

I'll never forget the look on his face when Stan Olenik cornered him in the parking lot, demanding answers; he did not want to be there.

He was adamantly opposed to firing Danny...

Max fired Danny, but as AD, it was Robinsons job to inform the public. He has been viewed as the villain ever since, but none of it was his doing.

I still believe Smiling Tiger® that Danny and team were heading for another natl championship and soon ... of course, neither the players or fans respected Hatfield. And a 30-40 year win streak vs. UVA disappeared quickly under Hatfield's leadership.

CDS does at times seem to forget where he came from

and what got him to where he is.
He just can’t get out of his own way sometimes. He’s the boss and won’t fire coaches or players no matter how many times they under perform.
If this was any other profession, they would be fired.
I do hope and pray that Saturday night we finally see the DJU that played when TL was out with COVID against ND. Was just our D that gave that game away. We need to finally put all 4 quarters together.

Totally different situation. Dabo knows he reports to the AD, President and BOT and for anyone else to think otherwise is just insane.
