Remember when college used

Jan 6, 2022, 7:59 AM

To be an institution for higher learning. Wonder what the average college student thinks about the way athletics are conducted at their said university. The price of tuition is sky rocketing but “college student athletes” are rolling in the doe on top of a free education.

Most of them are probably rolling in the "does" also!

showing up on campus in new cars and trucks that Mom and Pop could not have possibly afforded to give them, and flashing cash around. So, the only real difference, aside from the fact that now it's legal, is this Transfer Portal boondoggle. THAT, much more than NIL, will ultimately doom college football.

Combine the two, with the huge money rumblings already happening with the Texas schools, and instead of a flat, level playing field, you will have valleys and hills the size of Mount Everest.

I would suspect most college students are worried about grades and whether or not they meet the right guy/girl.

oh yeah, the good ole' days where players got $100 dollar hand shakes, t-top thunderbirds, and $100's back in change when they paid with a $5.

It was so much more fair and balanced when the paying of players was done behind closed doors.

Well clearly it was more balanced because lots of teams were able to compete. Now programs as strong as Clemson are going to be left in the dust.

UGA is the case in point that just because you have the jimmy's and joe's doesn't mean you have the x's and o's.

We will continue to be just fine.

To me it is strange that we have passed by the era of polluting the game by letting boosters buy the best players for their teams right back into letting boosters buy the best players for their teams.

You can now tell which institutions put education first. Harvard, for example, has more football championships than any other program, but because they put academics first they have not fielded a good football team in several generations.

on another thread we were talking about Rice being one of a handful of schools with a winning record against Alabama.... 3-0. They put education as their primary purpose and have not fielded a good team since the early 1960's.
