A Premiere League Model Might Be Fun in CFB

Jul 25, 2021, 9:16 PM

Built in Blocks of 12. There would have to be like 10 Tiers, with top 2 of each tier moving up and bottom 2 dropping down each year. Tier 1 would look something like this in no particular starting order:

Clemson
Bama
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Georgia
Oklahoma
T A&M
Cincy
Florida
BYU
Coastal Carolina
Northwestern

These 12 would play each other once for 11 games then top 2 would play for Championship. CFBP after that who knows or maybe each Division has a champ and teams go to bowls for fun.

You're giving uga way too much cred. LSU should be their replacement. Uga hasn't done anything but choke.

I’d be for it. It would make for a very interesting season.***

Relegation and promotion is so interesting and so fun

I can't believe that no US league in any sport has adopted it.

Yes, a Premiere League might be fun but ask yourself the following 8 questions:
1 )Why would Alabama leave the SEC when they already rule the roost?
2)Why would Ohio State leave? (See #1)
3) Why would Notre Dame join when they won't join the ACC?
4)Why would Georgia want to join a conference with Clemson when they purely don't want Clemson in the SEC?
5) Oklahoma is set to join the SEC with in the next 24-48 hours so why would they back out now?
6)T A&M says they don't want Texas in the SEC ,but say they will not leave the Sec. Why would they change their mind?
7)Why would Florida leave? Just because you think Alabama and Georgia would?
8) What do BYU, Cincy ,Coastal, and Northwestern bring to the conference that say, West Virginia, or Navy, or Baylor wouldn't bring.
No, a Super premiere league might be fun indeed, but IMO, it won't be any of those power 5 conference members leaving.
And I won't even go into the block thing ,or tiers or playoffs cause it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

It seems that the 12 teams that he listed were arguably the top 12 teams in the country last year. But you're right, why would Bama want to have to play all those good to great teams when now they just have to beat Auburn and LSU and then Florida or UGA to win the SEC? Say what you will about the "strength" of the ACC versus the SEC, but the bottom 8-9 teams in the SEC are about equal to the bottom 8-9 of the ACC. The SEC just tends to have 3-4 at the top whereas the ACC has 1 (maybe 2).
