Regarding "making room" for the 85 schollies with NIL money:

Right now, we are at 88.

If we could find 3 guys on the team who qualify for academic scholarships (palmetto fellows, life, etc) plus any other additional academic scholarships, then you could remove them from their athletic scholarship and just use some additional NIL collective money from Tiger Impact to make up the difference.

That would be a good way to essentially up your scholarships from 85 to however many you want/need to a degree. In theory, you could pretty easily have 90 on "scholarship" simply by using NIL.

That's a huge positive way to use NIL, and the "Clemson way" to use NIL. Using it paying for a kid's education.

Clemson needs a rich booster with a business to give a handful of players an NIL deal that will cover school expenses. Their scholarships could be pulled, they would be listed as walk ons, and they would use the NIL money to pay their school tab.

Not really.

A lot was made about the BYU NIL deal, but it's not that much of a game changer. The 85 limit applies to any "recruited athlete" - not just scholarships. Remember, a recruited athlete is anyone who took an official visit to the college, anyone who was visited off-campus by a member of the coaching staff (in-home, at their high school, or anywhere else), or anyone who was issued an official Letter of Intent by the school (whether they signed it or not).

BYU's deal will probably get them a better corps of walk-ons, but it won't move the needle that much for their scholarship caliber players.

Any scholarship given to a football player counts as a football scholarhship.

Any "athletic" scholarship given is considered a football scholarship. Academic scholarships are not in the same category.
