Recruits Transferring.....my thoughts

Feb 19, 2017, 9:21 AM

I see two different scenarios:
One is for someone like Ty Dye or even Tucker Isreal, who is a great QB in his own right, but will find it hard to get playing time with the talent we have on board. I could see him wanting to transfer for playing time somewhere else. It wouldn't be a selfish act, because he's currently not getting any playing time.
The second is for someone like Pagano, who is already getting playing time, but wants more for exposure to the NFL. Where can he go and get more "exposure" and playing time? He may get a few more snaps, but doubtful he would get more exposure. What does he think all the guys at Bamer do? If you're on a deep Championship caliber team, you're going to have to compete. The NFL Combine is made for guys like Pagano. NFL scouts already have him on their radar. Him leaving doesn't make himself look very good, as it shows he doesn't want to compete and play with his teammates, but rather bolt, be selfish and think of himself. I get it, you have to look out for yourself, but at this point in his career, he should have stayed the course. He would have been a top D-lineman after next season coming from a Championship team. These guys don't understand, saving their bodies is a good thing. I understand wanting reps, but preserve your body for the future. He will get plenty of opportunity to get in the NFL, no matters where he plays. All this being said, I certainly wish him luck.
He will always be a Clemson man with Championship ring...

My only thought is I wish,

that both Baker and Scott would have made their intentions known before NSD.

I've wondered if they did it on purpose to open scholarships for their buddy's on the practice squad....

I can make you a nice tin foil one

Bottom line----everyone has the right to make decisions

Feb 19, 2017, 9:29 AM

they think best for their career. Nobody else can make that decision for you nor should they try. Selfish? Are you kidding? He has been a team player for 4 years, graduated and is moving on. People need to let it go.

I agree. He has that right, and he handled the situation properly by speaking to the coaches. I appreciate his contributions and wish him the best in his next endeavor.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.

Pagano is easy, to me

Feb 19, 2017, 9:32 AM

Free year of Graduate degree, on west coast, so he is closer to Hawaii where he grew up.

NFL is a long shot, $ for, and from, graduate degree is a sure thing.

Re: Pagano is easy, to me

Feb 19, 2017, 9:37 AM

So do you think he's going to Stanford? That would be the only school I see that may make sense. Unless he's going Ivy League for a degree. His whole family is in SC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Stanford, Northwestern, Texas, Michigan, UCLA, USC

Feb 19, 2017, 9:56 AM

not to mention program specific schools depending on what he's looking for a Master's in. if he wants an MBA there are literally dozens of schools ranked hire than Clemson that would also give him a larger NFL spotlight

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're thinking of the Pagano situation wrong

Feb 19, 2017, 9:39 AM

First off Scott has be an excellent player for Clemson. I can't remember a single issue with him. Nowadays you can only expect a good player to be here 3 years, Scott gave us 4. And he's probably happy with his snaps from last year but him leaving is likely a sign that he won't get that many next year. Due to subpar DE play we played Wilkins, who is a DT, at DE. This transfer likely means that our DE's are stepping up and Wilkins is going back in the middle with big Dex. He just doesn't want to sit behind 2 first round players.

I wish them all luck.

Re: You're thinking of the Pagano situation wrong

He still would of got a lot of snaps. We rotate our DTs a good bit throughout the game and he would of been guaranteed (barring injury) getting a lot of snaps. I wish him nothing but the best but I think he should have stayed

Re: You're thinking of the Pagano situation wrong

Feb 19, 2017, 10:22 AM

No doubt Pagano kept his nose clean while at Clemson. No doubt either that he was not ALL IN, I can't help but see this as selfish and me first especially due to the timing. This also goes for the other ones who cut and run also. When Clemson made the commitment to them by awarding scholarships Clemson has stood by it's word. Can't say that for them. Life is a two-way street. It's time to move on and forget about them, in the long run I had rather have 10 committed to the cause than a hundred trying to decide if they are committed.

Pagano, Baker, and Dye

Feb 19, 2017, 10:24 AM

each committed to graduating from Clemson University while playing football for the school. Each one achieved that, and owe you nothing more

problem, not the players. Maybe everybody should announce THEIR life's decisions on TN and let everyone tell them how wrong, selfish, ungrateful they are. Seems only fair.

Players want to play. The dude has been an awesome team player, he graduated,

Feb 19, 2017, 10:19 AM

won a national champiobship, and now wants to go where he will be the starter. The NFL is not guaranteed, and this could be his last year of organized football.
I see nothing wrong with this and wish him luck.

More to come?

Feb 19, 2017, 10:40 AM

Just my own thoughts and speculation, but I think there's another 1 coming.
1 that's going surprise everyone- Don't wanna call the young man's name out.
And not saying it'll happen, but I sure wouldn't be surprised.
