Recruiting This Week Pt. 3: CAMP Update

Jun 3, 2021, 9:41 AM

The Dabo Swinney camp was back under away yesterday as prospects from multiple classes converged on Clemson to workout in front of Clemson’s coaches. So, let’s get started.

-Let’s do a 180 real quick and talk about a prospect who was at Clemson on Monday. 5* DE Jeremiah Alexander was at Clemson on Monday, and from all returns the guy might just have been Daboed. Alexander loved his visit and he has announced Clemson as his new favorite post-visit. However, let’s not let the horse run too far ahead of the cart, UGA gets a visit today, and we will see if that puts them on neutral terms with Clemson, AND then being in-state Alabama is going to factor heavily. He was once committed to Bama, and after he decommitted he said UGA was his leader, just for some background. I can say;however, that Alexander has already planned a return trip to Clemson in July for the cookout. There will only be one weekend open in July for recruits to visit, so it is big that Clemson gets that weekend visit. This is a long play for Clemson, officials will be taken in the Fall and a decision will not be made until January, this is a kid who likes the process.

-I mentioned that Avieon Terrell would be making his way out to Clemson yesterday but he was unable to workout due to a small injury. One of Terrell’s close friends 5* CB target Tony Mitchell was at Clemson late yesterday. He had originally planned to be at Clemson this Friday, but evidently decided to move his visit up, I have been told that he plans to stay into today. On Terrell, FSU and Florida are likely to get visits this week, based on what I have heard, he just needs to check all options, Clemson is still out in front by a large margin. On Mitchell, he was recently at Florida, and he will visit OSU, UGA, and Bama.

-Another prospect moved his visit date up. 22’ DT Hero Kanu and the group he has been travelling with arrived a day early. While Kanu is rough around the edges, understandable being new to the sport, he has an elite upside. LSU and OSU are two teams that I know have made an early impression. He will check out a bunch more places later this month.

-There was one no show out of the guys that I had reported would be there. 5* Texas commit RB Rueben Owens was at LSU today. He has moved his Clemson date to a later time in the month. There were two other RBs there as well, 23’ former FSU commit Cedric Baxter and 22’ RB Ramon Brown.

-Yesterday I updated you with regard to the LB situation and the two offers that were dispensed to Kanak and Tolan. I told you then that there was only room for one unless one projected as a safety. Well, Kanak worked out as both a safety and LB, while Tolan worked strictly as a LB. The question for the staff becomes whether Kanak projects as the best safety on the board over guys like, Covil, Sabb, or Branch, and if not than Tolan and Kanak would be fighting for that one spot, worth noting that I have heard that they both intend to take all of their visits, I have already told y’all those so no need to do that again.Based on what I have heard, though, the staff believes that Kanak is an outside LB who can play nickel. Also remember that Deuce Caldwell returns today, more on him later.

-I was really disappointed that OT Payton Kirkland picked up a knee injury at UGA on Monday, and was unable to complete. I still believe that he will get an offer sooner rather than later.

-The two 5* D-Line at the camp Peter Woods and Malik Bryant did not workout, as they already have offers. The red carpet was rolled for those two, and they got the chance to do their photoshoot in the Afternoon. I was a little disappointed in the returns that I received with regard to DE Derrick LeBlanc. His film was very impressive, so I was a little disappointed to hear that he did not stand out.

-I had mentioned in my post yesterday that two QBs would be in attendance. Ga QB Dylan Lonegran and Duncan native Rahiem Jeter. I heard from multiple people that Jeter had the better day, despite being ranked lower. Remember that the two big fish in Arch Manning and Nicholaus Iamaleava will be in town this weekend, the latter of which earned an offer from OSU today after his camp performance.

On to today’s camp/visitors:

-The day’s biggest visitor will be for this current class in TE target Oscar Delp. Delp will tour the campus and facilities with his family, that includes his uncle James Chappell who played for Clemson in the 90s, and was roommates with Strreeter. He will then visit UGA, Michigan, Florida, and U of SC, with a visit to Bama occurring earlier this week. While Uga has been long considered the favorite, I can say that they are not as far ahead as many believe. Going into these visits U of SC and Clemson had the best chance to displace UGA. I can say that Dabo will spend considerable time in the evening with Delp and his family, just shows you he is a priority.

-While we are talking about TEs it seems the industry has finally caught up with what I have been telling y’all about for over a month and that was that FSU led for Jaleel Skinner. I have talked about him at length, but I think that Clemson wants to see what happens with regard to Delp’s visit before they push for Skinner,

-As stated above Deuce Caldwell will return to Clemson to workout. Worth noting that he will work out at both safety and LB.

-DE prospect J’Mond Tapp will be at Clemson tomorrow. I think that LSU projects as the leader being in-state, Texas also slated to get an official.

-Other 22 guys visiting include QBJudah Holtzclaw and S Ashton Winter.

23’ Guys:

-Big time in-state DT Xzavier McLeod will be camping. I also expect him to travel to FSU and U of SC. Has a lot of ties to U of SC.

-Top 40 player S Michael Daugherty will also be in attendance. LSU, FSU, and UGA all competing there early.

-New offer LB Raylen Wilson will also make a trip down to Clemson, he scheduled that the day he was offered..

-A few other names, but I will only mention them if they show out at camp.

24’ Guys:

You could make a case for this next guy being the biggest recruit in attendance.

-In-state QB Jadyn Davis will be camping at Clemson. I have already brought him to y’all’s attention on multiple occasions, but his performance this weekend at a national event only further cemented that he will be a top 3 QB prospect for that class.

-Joseph Stone will also be camping. UGA and FSU have already offered.

-One class of 24 guy was at Clemson yesterday in OT Kam Pringle. He was impressive in the camp setting according to multiple people, and he also enjoyed the trip.

-Lastly, an interesting note that Will Taylor and Bubba Chandler are expected to be coaches at today’s camp.

-As always have a great week Tigernation!!

Hey Colbert, Clemgal was right, I get somewhere between 17-19 with 18 being the most likely. Next class will be much bigger in my estimation.

QB:1

RB: 1

WR: 2(3)

OL: 2 (3) A chance they take a PWO.

DE: 2

DT: 2

LB: 1

CB: 3 (2)

S: 1

K: 1

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.
