SAT is not required for most schools but grades still have to be good enough for admission at real universities like Clemson.

The SEC has their own set of admittance numbers for athletes along with a few other schools.

Multiple measures...

The new trend over the past 10 year is using "multiple measures" to determine college acceptance. And, there have been a number of studies that show how High School grades have been a better predictor of IPEDS 150% graduation rates as compared to SAT/ACT or any number of standardized tests. Basically, schools are moving away from both the SAT/ACT scores.

In the 60s the ACC required a higher standard than the

rest of the conferences. It’s a big reason South Carolina left the conference. Clemson and a couple of other schools sued to have the admission standards the same as the national standards and keep the playing field fair and give players a chance who were eligible for other schools just not ACC schools. The schools won and standards went back.

admin pulled the plug at the last minute because of grades.

It was a big problem and caused a lot of alumni to be upset.

The admin called for there to be a meeting between the football team and academic side.

Dabo (a little know assistant coach) was appointed the liaison for the football team.

It is reported that Dabo left the meeting shaking his head as to what could have possible been so wrong during the Ford years to have caused such dysfunction between the academic and athletic sides.

It is reported that Dabo was very genuine and helped get everyone on the same page. The athletic director at the time took notice and it was reported that this was part of the reason Dabo was given the interim job when Bowden left.

Interesting... compare that to what UNC did

Oct 26, 2022, 11:33 AM

when their athletics and academics colluded to allow students to take bogus online courses to remain eligible. UNC should have lost their SACSCOC accreditation over what they did. But that would have affected all their students and not just the athletes.

Passive Bobby Robinson was had replaced aggressive Bill McLellan and Max Lennon was not an admirer of our football program. Danny’s imperious attitude did not help. It was a recipe for disaster. And we paid for it for the next 20+ years.

Read an intetesting tidbit about Joe Namath. He wanted

to play for Maryland but was rejected due to low SAT scores.

Bear Bryant said, "No problem," and off to Bama Broadway Joe went in the early 60's, leading them to a national title, Bryant later said that Namath was the best athlete he ever coached.

Imagine the chagrin on the Maryland folks' faces when they realized what they had lost. Now, as others have said, there are a variety of metrics used for admission.
