Recruiting and the NFL

Dabo has a great track record as a recruiter and our recent success on the field will certainly help bring talent to Clemson, but I don't think we should overlook how important the success of former Tigers in the NFL can be in strengthening our program. The more success that C.J., Nuk, and Ellington have, the better off Clemson will be. For a long time, it seemed like the only Tiger making a difference in the pros was Dawkins. Hopefully Sammy and Tajh can continue the trend off recent Tigers making noise in the NFL.

Marcus Gilchrist is starting in SD at FS. Jarvis Jenkins in Washington on DL, Chris Clemmons in Miami at SS, Jacoby Ford in Oakland at WR, Brandon Thompson on DL in Cinncinnati, Jaron Brown in Arizona are all seeing the field a lot. All seem to be good kids too and that's important in terms of sticking around the NFL where being a head case don't go over well unless you are a super talent. Charlie Whitehurst is carrying the clipboard as Rivers' backup out here in SD and is highly thought of in that organization as well from what i've heard out here. Another one is Kavell Conner, who sees the field a lot for the Colts. I'm sure this isn't lost on Dabo and Coach Scott and all of the assistants when they recruit.

We need to start putting linemen in the NFL as starters.

the funny thing is that other than Barry Richardson and Chris Hairston, we haven't had any OL make any noise in the NFL since Jeff and Joe Bostic and Steve Kenney from the late '70's. Unless i'm forgetting someone, even Danny's horses didn't translate into NFL linemen. Stacy Seegars, i think, was the most dominant OL we ever had but he was a high draft pick of Seattle and quit football during training camp in '93 or '94. That was an odd situation. Guess the kid was done with it but what a beast he was. I still remember him blowing Derrick Brooks completely off of his feet and about 10 yards out of bounds on a sweep. Brooks is a HOF NFL player and he looked like a rag doll when Seegars blew him apart.

And I think Jaron Brown has made Arizona fans pretty happy. Don't know the stats but what little he has played has been good for a rookie.

And on the defensive side I seem to recall Bowers was doing well at TB. Might be wrong on that, dunno.

the consensus is that he's somewhat disappointing with a lack of production. They are all great players in the NFL. In order to standout you have to have an X factor that not all have. He's a solid pro but he's among a ton of solid pros in that league. Jacoby is seeing the field with the Raiders a lot this year...knock on wood that he'll stay healthy.
