Recruiting

Jul 25, 2018, 8:34 AM

davidhood®
David just curious about any updates on recruiting. I saw we missed out on Walker and DT looks to be a position of need but haven't heard any more names as possible targets? Also is there anything new with names such as Booth, Q.Crouch? I know the Cook-Out could land a commit or 2 but is there any more insight before it or will it be best to make a judgment after this weekend? Thanks

I think the idea is to keep the Cookout guest list a secret until after the event to ensure that the guests actually show up. Last year, the guest list leaked early, and over half of the prospects didn't show up due to some "suspect" reasons. However, a few players like Andrew Booth, Joe Ngata, and Vonta Bentley are all pretty much confirmed to be attending the event. As for updates on various recruits, I don't think many people realize Clemson has positioned itself well with many Top Targets. Everyone seems to forget there's a whole season left to play, and the results of the season always drastically impact recruiting. By the time we reach December, the outcome of the season for various teams will impact Targets in a drastic way. If you recall, Clemson wasn't even recruiting guys such as Mario Goodrich this time last year, and led for players like Jamaree Salyer. Recruiting moves fast, and the season will dictate the decision for a lot of targets. If Clemson goes out and has the season we're expected to have, we'll be just fine. Clemson is well positioned for a player like Crouch, but his recruitment is Early and is still developing, and will likely last until Signing Day. We are also well positioned for Andrew Booth, but Auburn has made a strong push. Booth's relationship with the coaching staff is very solid, but we will need to continue working to fend off Auburn. As David Hood reported earlier, Vonta Bentley is expected to commit Friday at the Cookout. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ngata pull the trigger, either. Spencer Lytle, a 3-star OLB will commit on August 4th, and the Tigers are very much alive, along with Wisconsin. As for some other players to watch:
-Clay Webb, 5-star C: Definite Alabama lean, but his relationship with Coach Bates has kept us alive. The longer this goes, the better chance we give ourselves
-Faatui Tuitele, 5-star DT: Another long shot and Alabama lean, but again, Coach Bates has given us a shot. Need to get him on campus
-Nakobe Dean, 5-star LB: Clemson appears to be on the outside looking in, but don't count on Brent Venables
-Noah Cain, 4-star RB: A priority target for Coach Tony Elliot; has visited Clemson multiple times, but again, a long shot
-Braedin Huffman-Dixon, 4-star WR: A Colorado commit, but would flip to Clemson if he received an offer; watch for Coach Jeff Scott to issue the offer during the season
-Hudson Henry, 4-star TE: Another long shot and tough pull from Arkansas (his brother and Dad went there), but Clemson is hanging tough and trying to get him back on campus
-Jaden McKenize, 3-star DT: Plays on DexStar's old high school team; Clemson is very much alive, and could add depth along defensive line
-Jayln Phillips, 3-star S: Plays with Andrew Booth; will announce in August, but has already silently committed to a school and shut down his recruitment...that school is Clemson
-Shyheim Battle, 4-star CB: Clemson and NC State are Final 2; NC State has a slight lead, but look for a successful Clemson season/disappointing NC State campaign to tip the scales

Hope this helped somewhat

Agree with the season being key. Every year folks try to put out doubt that

We will continue to be a powerhouse and year after year we are proving wrong. A good year from us and a down year for auburn or Georgia let’s say and we are in it for some folks.

Not only that but I expect some of the ones we have committed to get a big bump after the season. The kid from Michigan (Ruke Orhorhoro) has only played football one season and has some bigtime offers. I expect him to get a big jump after more video gets out of his abilities and second year under his belt. at 6-4 and 271 he may end up transitioning from DE to DL. depending if he can put a little more bulk on during his final year in high school. Go Tigers.
