Baseball defense.

Not an expert by any means, so what has to be/can be done to improve our baseball defense for next year? It was painful to watch all those errors! Just think what we could have accomplished with better fielding.

I think Grayson Byrd, who sat out this year after transferring from LSU, will probably compete for a starting role at 3rd or SS. Incoming freshmen (Davidson, Hawkins, Howard, Little Kieboom) will see opportunities as well.
Pretty much everyone should be playing in summer leagues as soon as next week so there will be plenty of opportunity for the current starters to improve over the next 8 months.

Kieboom has to make it through the draft. There are several other transfers I think but don't know their position.

I've heard good things about Logan Davidson, obviously Kieboom is the big name in this class, if he makes it through the draft he will probably start somewhere in 2017.

Big problem is guys playing out of position. Weston Wilson was terrible at 3rd and became pretty decent when moved to 2nd. I think Jordan Greene would feel more comfortable at 2nd, Chris Williams is primarily a catcher playing corner infield, although he did ok defensively this season. Seth Beer is just raw as an outfielder. Outside of Eli White who is just not a good defensive shortstop I think a big part of it has to do with reps and comfort level at their positions.

Byrd will be a solid upgrade move white. Nothing we can do about Rohlman and Beer, they are both average at best corner OF. Need to find a 3B.
I equate our fielding now to WR pre-Sammy Watkins. Just need a talent upgrade

you don't want to take Rohlman or beer's bat out of the lineup. obviously Beer is going to bat, but Rohlman has such a pretty swing. If he hits the weight room hard this summer he could be mashing balls out of the park on the regular next year.

hopefully we will have someone in here next year who can complete for his starting job. I kept telling my son the only reason he is starting is because we don't have anyone better......hopefully we will next year. I think all of the guys playing out of position is a testament to Monte Lee and the staff to bandage up a less than ideal situation defensively.
