I think I remember two. Is that bad?
Xavier something another and a white boy named Something another Price.
On second thought, you said "great." I don't know if they qualify.

Recalling a great post-McGuire Gamecock baller is tough, but

I really enjoyed Renaldo Balkman's game. He was able to make some cash in the league for a little while. Chuck Eidson became a phenom in Europe AFTER he graduated but he was hampered by injuries and Dave Odumb while at S CAR.
That said, I am still (barely) in my 40s and I remember a number of Gamecock greats from the McGuire era. I'd say Alex English, Mike Dunleavy, Sr., and Brian Winters top the list of players I actually saw play. Kevin Joyce was tough as nails if his game wasn't all that pretty.
S CAR is still paying its Karmic debt for how it treated McGuire - the individual who put a no-name, 2nd-3rd tier southern state university in a sleepy, decaying backwater of a town on the national map. Maybe after the disaster that will be left in the wake of Frank Martin's impending departure payment will have been made in full. But, I hope not.

You aren't thinking about Xavier McDaniel (Sonics, Celts) are you? He was from Columbia (AC Flora HS), but I remember him playing at Witchita St.

on the same A. C. Flora team. I went to Keenan and they were in our conference. They were seniors my freshman year. Absolute beasts. X-Man went to Wichita State, Corbin to DePaul and both to the NBA for solid careers. Corbin is the Utah Jazz coach now. The PG on that team went to Furman, the other two Praylow twins went to Wichita State the next year. The most loaded HS team i've ever seen and won the state running away if i'm not mistaken. Watching Flora and Eau Claire basketball during my HS years and our team as well at Keenan was like watching small college basketball in HS. Columbia was pouring talent out back then and Clemson and the Chickens got very few of those kids. My classmate and All-State player Mike Glover from Keenan played for the Chickens for four years....good kid, wrong school.

a kid, but Alex English was a great, great player, a Basketball Hall of Famer, an NBA great, and a complete class act if you've ever been around him. He's about all they've had other than those early 70's McGuire teams that had Roche, Joyce, Owens, etc. I still say Larry Nance was the greatest Tiger player i've ever seen in my lifetime.

Also 43 and endured 6 long years of my childhood as a Tiger fan in Cola. Luckily one of those years was 1981! The only notable coot player I remember is from that same era and that would be Zam Frederick. I think he averaged close to 30 pts a game. He was pretty good.

The team of Roche, Ribock, Riker, Owens and Cremmins in 1969 almost had me wanting to attend Usuck until my Dad slapped me up side the head to make me think straight and told me I should go to Clemson instead. I'm really glad he was so much smarter than me back then. I entered Clemson in fall 1970 and it only took a few minutes before I could not stand Usuck.

Why would you need to....we have won, one more ACC championship and one more ACC tournament championship than Clemson and we haven't been in the ACC for 42 years. You should stay away from basketball when comparing the two schools....and baseball.....and football for the moment.
