Read 2 important things on TCI... regarding ND in the ACC

Sep 12, 2012, 12:19 PM

1. Clemson is thought to be a "permanent opponent" for the Irish. They were supposedly very specific about which teams they wanted to play every year

2. Because of this add, the 9 game schedule is going to be reviewed (and is thought that it will be overturned)

as always, excuse the germans.

Both of these things would be great developments if true.***

So it will be a 8 game conference schedule plus a ND game every year. Not much of a difference...

I'd rather play ND every year

I don't see any way they can retain the 9 game schedule, but I won't put anything past Swoffie.

would be great for our perceived strength of schedule if nothing else. While Notre Dame has underachieved vastly the past decade, they are still regarded as a national power so a win over them carries some weight. Also one has to assume they will eventually come back to elite status which helps our conference's reputation.

Let's also remember that playing ND is great for our recruiting. Lots of people watch their games (you don't get your own tv deal with NBC otherwise), and there are large areas of the country which are not typical college football areas or not areas where we typically recruit where people always watch ND due to tradition, religious connection, whatever.

I don't think that will be the case with either point.***

Also this is coming from the same site that called the ND

Sep 12, 2012, 12:26 PM

addition to the ACC back in early JUNE.

if true

Sep 12, 2012, 12:27 PM

that leaves 4 games a year to spread between 13 teams, can't play everyone once every 3 years.

Example

Clemson, A, B, C, D

Clemson, E, F, G, H

Clemson, I, J, K, L

Clemson, M, A, B, C

Clemson, D, E, F, G

from the site...

Terms say ND plays all ACC schools every 3 years at the rate of 5 games a year!!
The numbers say, one more member on the way.

Guessing now, but Swoffard been working on this for two years now. He knows the next team already and at end of NBC contract with ND, the ACC and NBC will pressure ND to join all ACC sports.

More from Robert @ TCI

Sep 12, 2012, 12:34 PM

"As we have told you Notre Dame has certain schools they would like to play every year. Clemson is one of those schools. Sources have confirmed to us this morning that Clemson expects to be one of the teams to play Notre Dame every year. Now this all has to be finalized with the discussions around the new TV agreements between the ACC, ESPN and NBC. It is possible that could change things."

The question then is whether that would count as one of our 9 (or 8, hopefully) ACC games. Since they are not full members, they will not be competing to go to the ACC Championship so I assume we would not get credit for an ACC win.
