I'm not afraid of dying... not since that
Aug 14, 2021, 8:29 AM
|
|
that 1st bullet in Nam hit the sand a few inches from my face as I lay on my stomach beside that mountain creek so close that it kicked sand in my eyes. At that moment, thinking I would surely die, my only thought was, "What will this do to my mother?" Nowadays, my big worry is how my death will affect my young grandkids because I know how such losses are so much worse at their ages. The thing I am afraid of is long- term hospitalization (because I also know how that is from almost a year in Walter Reed), and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I fear long term disability and rehab because I also know from experience how that is .I selfishly want to have health and independence for as long as possible.
The point here is( not to start another back and forth about control and political statements), to let folks who did not see the report on WYFF4 news last night with the woman from NC who talked about her brother who has been in the hospital for quite a while and is now in an induced coma and reportedly will have to have months of rehab just to learn to walk again if he does manage to recover. This was on TV because she wanted to get the message to others about the vaccine - she had strongly urged her brother to NOT to get it because he was so young and strong and that he did not need to worry about getting seriously ill. He was so strong that they put pictures of him in a football stadium opening his shirt in a Superman-like pose showing a T-shirt saying "STUD". (Vanity sometimes kills). The saddest part was that one picture showed his young kids. She blames herself.
Not trying to control anyone by telling them to go get vaccinated, it's a personal choice - not wanting another back-and-forth with all the name calling , we know where everyone stands on this but if you saw this report maybe one or two studs out there may choose a different path.
PLEASE NO RESPONSES OR ARGUMENTS. Just take a few moments to consider your present or perhaps future kids or grandkids.

One coot? LOL my 4 best friends (2 from elementary, 2 from HS) are all coots. That 5 year stretch was tough, but the last 7 have been sweet. Even with the lack of a game last year, USuCk provides more than enough ammo. I’ll be seeing two tonight but no bashing on the shot front as we’ve all been vaccinated. I’ll find something though.

Thanks for passing on the story, but it is just an anecdote.

The saying in statistics is that anecdotes are evidence of......anecdotes. Nothing more.
You watch the news and it's got you worried about the virus. Fine. Others have chosen to not get whipped up by fear and panic. They can live their lives and suffer whatever consequences may befall them. You can live yours.
Why do you feel the need to constantly preach about it on T-net? What does this have to do with your service related injuries? I have been stricken by cancer and lost multiple family members to that awful disease. I have suffered, yet I don't feel a need to harrange others. Why do you?
Please, just give it a rest.

The only rational and factual response to your post is the part about 'personal choice'. That is simply a lie. No one has the personal choice to endanger others. There is no freedom to choose to risk carrying a virus that can kill others.
Make the personal choice to drive without a seatbelt, in NC they'll hammer you with a $200 fine. Or take advantage of your personal freedom to drive 200 mph down the highway, they'll freedom you right into jail. Or try to get your kids into any K-12 school without vaccinations.
Join the military where you have the freedom to be injected with over 12 or so vaccines whether you like it or not.
The whole personal freedom argument is merely the result of brainwashing from watching too much ####### TV.
Of the 600,000 Americans who have died, 100% of them were infected by someone else. You're personal freedom doesn't allow you to walk into a elementary school with a shotgun anymore than it allows you to be a personal carrier of a deadly infectious disease.
Right Wing propaganda works just as well as left wing propaganda. Both do it to be paid or raise money. Either way it's the manipulation of a population for financial or political gain. Read a history book for christs sake.

My niece works in an ICU. Every additional COVID infected person she has to tend to is putting her more at risk.
And the unvaccinated are overwhelming hospitals. Some people are being turned away from emergency rooms where I live and people in hospitals are sometimes not getting the care they would otherwise because of the stress the whole system is under so much stress.
The unvaccinated are putting others at risk.

Na. Vaccinated people still can spread the virus. Plus some people are really healthy, I workout, sleep well, eat healthy, take vitamins, ect.
I'm all for people taking the vaccine if they want. Genuinely, but where I have an issue is when people like you start saying crap CNN says and makes unvaccinated people the bad guys. Get lost with that talk.
People are going to do as they please.

All the 'elective' surgeries are being postponed

Uncle with a brain lesion? Yep, you gotta wait for the unvaccinated to clear out the hospital before they have space to operate. Good luck with your slurred speech, seizures and occasional blackouts. These unvaccinated folks who refused to help themselves are sucking up all our resources.
Neighbor with terrible back pain? Your two day back surgery scheduled this week has been postponed until doctors and hospitals have more availability. Good luck dealing with the constant pain and inability to stand upright. These anti-vaxxers just won't die fast enough to clear out the space before other's take their spot.

part of a flight crew that got the 12 or more vaccinations to do their jobs. Let's talk football...when we were young many years ago polio was rampant before they came up with a vaccine (sugar cube) to stop it. Dabo's mom had it and spent a good part of her childhood in an iron lung until she finally was able to be cured. We were all isolated and scared, but no one refused that vaccine and now polio has been close to being eradicated.

I appreciate your service. Thank you very much for serving our country. I can't imagine what you saw or did. That being said, we will all do what we want and choose to do, because this is a free country. Your appeal to emotion is sad, and that's a serious story. I've got them myself, except on the other side. But thats all they are, are appeals to emotion. We all know how it is with covid. Personal anecdotes are welcome but won't change my position on covid. There's a cost to everything.

It is a shame when an old war hero like yourself would recieve TDs just for sharing his experiences and opinions.
I uderstand fearing that "helpless" part, don't think I would deal well with that.
I too suffered an injury while in service. One dark and lonely night when I got too fresh with a Fraulien, she knocked me off a bar stool. My ego was crushed.
Don't let the ######## get you down, and again "thanks for your service".

Good read Clover. Medically, we are missing something. Out of shape 59 yr olds are catching COVID-19 bug and overcoming with little impact. Other younger and healthier men and women are getting real sick and in 2% of cases dying. Doctors cannot explain why.

I agree that we’re missing something. Symptoms range from zero to death. I know unvaccinated people who’ve been exposed multiple times and have never gotten sick. I have 2 friends, both fully vaccinated for months fighting for their lives right now. One will likely not survive. Can’t wait for this thing to be in the history books.

You are correct. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated can carry the virus, get sick , and die. That’s the truth of the matter. I wish we could allow people to make individual choices without all the bashing.

Good post Clover65, and the only thing I care to add is this, we all seen how covid affected the world, not just our country before the vaccine was ready. After the vaccine had been given to millions, covid deaths had significantly dropped around the world. But with any disease, they will continually change in a way that makes them stronger, and more deadly just as the covid virus has done with the variants of this same virus.
The vaccine doesn't stop us from contracting the covid 19 virus, but it has made it about 95% less likely to kill the ones that may have a weaker immune system, and it would have saved the lives of about 95% of those that have died from covid 19 before the vaccine had been developed, and given to those at a high risk of the virus becoming fatal for them. We hear those saying that they don't trust the vaccine, and there have been many of those at deaths door, and have died but, before they died, they confessed that they wish they would have taken the vaccine, and have ask their family members to take it bc they would have a better chance of surviving the results of covid unlike them that has died bc they refuse the vaccine.
What we do know about the covid vaccine, there isn't any proof that the vaccine has, or will kill anyone, but there is hundreds of thousands that it has been proven that covid was the main cause of their death. For me personally at a high risk of covid killing me, I've taken both of the vaccine shots, and as soon as the booster is ready, I'll be there waiting for the door to open to get the booster. And if it turns out that the vaccine will cause health problems down the road from now, at least I'll be alive for them to figure out how to fix it, I just know that for right now I'm alive and doing well without any fear of the covid virus killing me or my wife, and it's giving us a better chance of living longer, and we wouldn't have had that chance without the vaccine if we catch the covid 19 virus, or any of the variants that has come after the original covid 19 virus.
I'm done asking people to save themselves, it's their choice, and I hope they choose what's right for them, and the family and friends that love them, and the people that they love. And I hope their hard headed butts will survive this awful pandemic while playing Russian roulette with the percentages of life, and death of surviving without the vaccine for themselves, and their family!!!!
